Princess Alexia’s life at UCL has largely remained under wraps, though the royal family previously shared a photograph of her commencing her studies at the London university, where she switched degrees from the Bachelor of Science and Engineering for Social Change to Civil Engineering.
In one photograph, the Princess, dressed in a trendy tan suede waistcoat, can be seen beaming as she walks through the campus, while a short clip shows her waving at the camera. The 21-year-old had felt ‘a bit stressed about choosing’ where she might study at university. According to the NL Times, she was widely expected to study at the University of Groningen.

Princess Alexia has already graduated from one of the world’s most prestigious colleges, where she rubbed shoulders with her fellow royals as she revised for upcoming exams. UWC Atlantic, the boarding school dubbed ‘hippy Hogwarts’, has an illustrious alumni network – including Alexia’s father, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands. With its roll call of royalty, the school sounds very grand. But UWC Atlantic is, deliberately, far from that. The 360 pupils studying in Wales come from 90 different countries and are specifically chosen for their diversity, as well as their ‘mindset, attitude and genuine passion to serve society’.
UWC pupils fall into two categories: culturally, politically, socially and economically diverse scholars from more than 155 countries worldwide who are selected by 3,000 volunteers globally; and fee-paying students. A two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) course costs from £66,000, but the scholars, a number of whom are refugees or victims of war, receive full bursaries.
Following her graduation, the Dutch royal took a year out, which she says was spent ‘travelling, working and all sorts of things.’ In the years since, she has become a regular at the F1 and at King’s Day celebrations, too, with both annual events giving Princess Alexia a chance to showcase her uber-chic style.
