Members of the Main Board of the Serbian People’s Party (GO SNS) unanimously decided today in Niš that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić would be its candidate for prime minister, as well as the leader and first on its list “Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia”.
Vučić, thanking for the honor, said that there is no party that takes more responsibility for national and state interests than the SNS, but also that foreign services have a great influence on events in Serbia.
“When people are looking for change, they are not looking for those who destroyed factories, those who organize roadblocks every day. They are looking for changes in order to eliminate arrogance among government representatives. People want government representatives in every place to listen to them when they have problems,” Vučić said at the beginning of his speech.
Vučić also told members of the SNS Central Committee at a meeting in Niš that “at this moment, the SNS has an advantage” over its political opponents, but “it will not maintain that advantage through inaction, violence and displays of arrogance.”
They will keep it “only by working, showing respect and caring for people. So go and talk to people, turn on the television, go among the people, talk to ordinary people – from the cafe, the market, in every place. That is my request to you,” said Vučić, after the SNS General Assembly unanimously determined that he be the party’s candidate for prime minister.
Vučić said that he wants a “convincing victory, the strongest possible” in every place in the elections on October 25th.
He stated that Serbia needs an efficient, fast, energetic government, with principles of accountability, so he prepared what the law on ministries and a government that would have 12 ministers in addition to the prime minister, “and not thirty or more”, should look like.
“I will propose that this government be detached (operate outside its headquarters), so that each minister must hold the sessions of the collegium of their ministries twice a month in the countryside, and not in Belgrade. Government sessions should be incomparably more frequent in the countryside – that is always a good opportunity to receive citizens and have their problems heard,” said Vučić.
He asked the party “not to remove the elders and founders, not to fight only for positions, but to protect their party.”
“Call on all people to help us in the fight against the worst evil that comes from outside, this does not come from within. They have only convinced our people with lies that they are doing something good, from Jovanjica, wiretapping and other things,” said Vučić.
He also said “that we will always extend a hand to those from Europe and look forward to meeting them, but don’t humiliate us, don’t do what Marta Kos does, don’t deceive people, don’t make things up.”
“I am proud that I have not extradited a single Serb to The Hague. I walk with my head held high. And those of their courts – international tribunals for this, for that – are all courts of injustice, none of them serve any purpose,” Vučić said, adding that the government would “consider joining” US President Donald Trump’s advocacy against “those courts of injustice.”
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos announced yesterday that she will not be making a planned visit to Serbia because, as she stated, the glorification that follows the death of Ratko Mladić cannot be linked to the values on which the path to the European Union is being built.
Kos stated in a post on Iks that Mladić was convicted of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, and that “the return of his remains to Belgrade reminds Europe of the darkest pages of our recent history.”
