A new generation of trams has entered service in The Hague, where public transport operator HTM has begun carrying passengers on the new TINA trams manufactured by Stadler.
These first journeys mark an important step in the modernisation of the city’s tram network, with the new vehicles designed to provide more accessible, comfortable and efficient transport.
The interior design was developed through collaboration between HTM, Stadler and representatives of the local community. Passenger feedback also contributed to the choice of features such as the seats, stop buttons and handrails.
The trams are manufactured at the Stadler factory in Siedlce, Poland.
More efficient and more accessible trams
The new TINA trams are fitted with four bogies developed specifically for this model, designed to ensure a smooth ride and to reduce wear on the wheels and tracks. The propulsion system is energy-efficient, and a battery enables the tram to travel along non-electrified sections of up to 1.26 km in length.
The TINA tram has a fully low-floor design, which facilitates access for wheelchair users, people with reduced mobility and passengers with pushchairs. The interior is designed to offer more space, with a high ceiling and large panoramic windows.
To enhance safety, the trams are fitted with driver assistance systems, including a collision warning system. The driver’s cab features Stadler’s UNIBOARD digital system, designed to improve the driver’s ergonomics and working conditions.
The start of passenger service follows an extensive programme of development, production, testing and certification of the vehicles for The Hague’s tram network.
The new TINA trams for The Hague form part of a contract signed in December 2022, which provides for the delivery of 56 such trams, including an option for additional vehicles. The first tram was officially unveiled in September 2025, after which it entered the testing phase.
HTM has currently ordered 62 TINA trams, which will replace the old fleet of GTL8 trams and help develop a public transport network tailored to the needs of a growing city.
