New Delhi: The Supreme Court has withdrawn a fine imposed on the Central Government for providing incorrect information in connection with the investigation into the dredger scam case involving former DGP and BJP leader Jacob Thomas. The Court had earlier imposed a penalty of ₹25,000 on the Central Government, which was later withdrawn following a request by Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju.

The Supreme Court had previously directed the State to submit a list of officers required to travel to the Netherlands for the investigation into the dredger scam case. In compliance, the State Vigilance had forwarded a list of officers to the Union Home Ministry in November for travel approval. However, the Central Government later informed the Court that no such list had been received from the Vigilance, leading to the imposition of the fine for furnishing incorrect information.

Report received from Netherlands, handed over to CBI: ASG

During the hearing, the Central Government informed the Supreme Court that a report relating to the case had been received from the Netherlands. The document, originally in Dutch, has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and is currently being translated.

The Supreme Court directed the Central Government to submit the translated report before the Court within three weeks.

Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju submitted that investigating officers had travelled to the Netherlands and collected the report. However, counsel appearing for the Kerala Government disputed this claim, stating that no investigating officers had visited the Netherlands.

Senior Advocate Jayant Muthuraj and Standing Counsel Hashad V. Hameed appeared for the State Government, while Advocate A. Karthik represented Jacob Thomas. Advocate Kaleeshwaram Raj appeared for Sathyan Naravoor, the complainant in the case against Jacob Thomas.
