RIVERSIDE, Mo. –- One local artist is painting part of the city orange with a large-scale Netherlands-themed art installation in Riverside, Missouri that is already turning heads.

The Kansas City Current’s training facility in Riverside will serve as the Netherlands’ base camp this summer during the World Cup.

“So the mayor was like, let’s paint this town orange, Jeff, and you are the right guy to do it,” said artist Jeff Parson.

Jeff Parson is the owner of Fearless Jack Rabbit Art.

Parson is the artist behind the Netherlands-themed artwork display just off of Northwest Gateway Avenue. He’s been working on it for about three weeks.

“It’s really exciting for me because I do this in pieces, and I’m stunned when it comes together. I was thrilled to see it go together,” Parson explained.

The display features Netherlands players and plenty of orange elements.

“Let’s just start there, and let’s do something big and bold that will really get people’s attention,” Parson explained.

The project expanded into a full-scale, temporary, World Cup park off of Northwest Gateway Avenue. The Mayor of Riverside commissioned Parson to design the large-scale installation.

“This will be a temporary park where people can come down, celebrate the Netherlands being here, celebrate the World Cup, something that will celebrate and elevate our community,” Parson said.

He hopes his artwork makes international visitors feel welcome in Riverside, and the temporary park becomes a destination where people can take pictures and make memories during the tournament.

“Every day I get comments on my art page saying ‘I look forward to driving by your house every day because it brings a smile to my face,’ and that is the purpose of my artwork,” Parson said.  “Because, as negative as this world can get, if any of us can give a moment of positivity and happiness to anybody, we will be in a lot better shape. And that’s what I want my artwork to do.”

The World Cup-themed art installation will be on display through August 1st.
