AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (WNYT)- Amsterdam police said a 42-year-old man was jailed after officers responding to a domestic report found him fighting with a woman.

Police said officers went to a home near Albert Street on April 17 and heard screaming inside the apartment. As they approached, they saw Eric Vannostrand in a physical fight with a woman, according to police.

Police said officers broke up the fight and tried to take Vannostrand into custody. During the arrest, police said he resisted and kicked an officer in the head, causing an injury.

Vannostrand, of Amsterdam, was taken to police headquarters for processing. He was later arraigned in Amsterdam City Court before Judge William Mycek and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

Police charged Vannostrand with Second-Degree Assault, Obstructing Governmental Administration, resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of a child. The Amsterdam Police Department said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
