The Jeep models are planned for global export markets, while the Peugeot vehicles are intended for both China and overseas sales.<\/p>\n<p>The project carries a combined investment of over 8 billion yuan (1.18 billion USD), with Stellantis expected to contribute approximately 130 million euros.<\/p>\n<p>Jeep returns to local production<\/p>\n<p>The announcement marks Jeep\u2019s return to localised production in China after the termination of the GAC-Stellantis joint venture in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The new agreement also follows earlier reports that Stellantis planned to develop a <a href=\"https:\/\/carnewschina.com\/2025\/10\/14\/stellantis-will-reportedly-create-a-new-jeep-suv-with-chinese-dongfengs-tech\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new Jeep SUV using Dongfeng technology<\/a>. The latest announcement did not disclose platform details, battery suppliers, or powertrain specifications for the upcoming models.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stellantis.com\/en\/news\/press-releases\/2026\/may\/stellantis-and-dongfeng-strengthen-their-historic-partnership-in-china-and-beyond\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Stellantis said<\/a> the new Peugeot vehicles would adopt the design language shown by <a href=\"https:\/\/carnewschina.com\/2026\/04\/24\/dongfeng-peugeot-and-dongfeng-citroen-unveil-four-concept-cars-at-2026-beijing-auto-show\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peugeot concept cars<\/a> displayed at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show.<\/p>\n<p>Wider China strategy<\/p>\n<p>The cooperation comes as several foreign automakers deepen partnerships with Chinese manufacturers to accelerate NEV development and reduce development costs.<\/p>\n<p>In April, <a href=\"https:\/\/carnewschina.com\/2026\/04\/27\/chery-jlr-freelander-8-unvailed-with-huawei-ads-5-and-catl-6c-charging\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chery and JLR unveiled the Freelander 8 SUV<\/a> with Huawei ADS 5 driver assistance and CATL 6C charging technology, highlighting the growing use of Chinese EV systems in joint-venture projects.<\/p>\n<p>Stellantis has also expanded its cooperation with <a href=\"https:\/\/carnewschina.com\/2023\/10\/26\/stellantis-to-acquire-20-of-leapmotor-in-e1-5-billion-deal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leapmotor<\/a> since acquiring a 21% stake in the Chinese EV maker in 2023. The companies recently announced plans to deepen manufacturing cooperation in Europe in addition to distribution activities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-35-800x395.png\" data-fancybox=\"gallery\" data-caption=\"Leapmotor\u2019s sales in China till April 2026. Credit: China EV DataTracker.<\/p>\n<p>Sales context<\/p>\n<p>Leapmotor\u2019s domestic sales reached 57,161 units in April 2026, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/data.carnewschina.com\/sales\/brand\/leapmotor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">China EV DataTracker data<\/a>.
