There are moments in a season when the crowd at the Johan Cruyff Arena leans forward in anticipation. More often than not lately, those moments arrive when Rayane Bounida<\/a> gets the ball.<\/p>\n

The young Ajax prodigy has been one of the most exciting breakout performers in the Eredivisie this season, dazzling supporters with daring dribbles, quick feet and a confidence that belies his age.<\/p>\n

Still slight in frame but fearless in approach, the Belgian teenager has quickly become one of the most talked-about players at AFC Ajax, turning flashes of flair into tangible production during his first sustained run in the senior side.<\/p>\n

Bounida\u2019s journey to Amsterdam began long before the bright lights of the Johan Cruyff Arena. <\/p>\n

Born in Belgium, he first played youth football at Vilvoorde FC before spells at Oud-Heverlee Leuven. His real breakthrough came after joining the academy of R.S.C. Anderlecht, where he rapidly developed a reputation as one of Europe\u2019s most technically gifted prospects.<\/p>\n

Even as a teenager, Europe\u2019s biggest clubs were circling<\/a>. Both Manchester City F.C. and Paris Saint-Germain F.C. explored signing him when he turned 16 and became eligible for his first professional contract.<\/p>\n

Instead, Bounida chose<\/a> Ajax.<\/p>\n

On 7 March 2022, he signed<\/a> for the Dutch giants and initially joined the club\u2019s under-17 side but his rise through the Ajax system was swift. His professional debut arrived with Jong Ajax on 9 December 2024 in the Eerste Divisie against De Graafschap. Introduced in the 86th minute, he needed only moments to announce himself, scoring immediately on debut.<\/p>\n

The goals continued. Four more followed across his next five appearances for the reserves, accelerating calls for a senior opportunity.<\/p>\n

Speaking almost a year ago, Director of Football, Marijn Beuker told the club website<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cWith his technical ability, quick decision-making in tight spaces, and two-footedness, Rayane is a feast for the eyes. His football intelligence, creativity, and smart positioning perfectly reflect our vision on talent development. We are excited to see his continued development at the club.\u201d<\/p>\n

That chance came in February 2025. One day after signing a contract extension tying him to Ajax until 2028, Bounida<\/a> made his first-team debut in a 4\u20130 win over Heracles Almelo.<\/p>\n

It proved to be his only senior appearance that season, and the real breakthrough arrived this season.<\/p>\n

After beginning the campaign back with Jong Ajax, Bounida gradually forced his way into the first-team picture. His European debut came in November 2025 when he appeared as a substitute in the UEFA Champions League against Galatasaray.<\/p>\n

His most explosive performance arrived in the KNVB Cup. In a remarkable 7\u20132 win over Excelsior Maassluis on 17 December, Bounida scored his first senior goal and added four assists in a breathtaking display.<\/p>\n

Since then, he has rarely looked back. Used primarily on the right wing, the teenager has made 20 senior appearances this season, contributing two goals and another five assists while producing a catalogue of tricks that have quickly made him a fan favourite.<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively to Get Football<\/a>, Bounida revealed the inspiration behind his fearless style.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been watching Neymar at PSG and Barcelona,\u201d he said. \u201cWith my qualities, I think I can do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet the Ajax youngster insists imitation is not his aim.<\/p>\n

\u201cNeymar was an idol. His technique, everything. But I want to play like me, have my own style of play. I want to keep me, me \u2014 who I am \u2014 and not play as someone else.\u201d<\/p>\n

That philosophy is visible every time he receives the ball. Bounida rarely hesitates, often attempting the unexpected \u2014 a flick, a sudden change of pace, or a daring dribble through the midfield.<\/p>\n

\u201cI try not to think twice,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt\u2019s good for me, and the fans like it. I try to express myself and relax. Coaches tell me to do my thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, the teenager understands the tactical discipline required at the highest level.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I\u2019m deeper in defence, I know I have to play one or two touches. Higher up the pitch, I need to choose the right moment and the right speed.\u201d<\/p>\n

For now, Bounida is focused less on statistics than on development.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not someone who sets goals for next year,\u201d he said. \u201cThe most important thing is to keep playing, keep enjoying and keep scoring.\u201d<\/p>\n

If his trajectory continues, Ajax may have found their next great entertainer and superstar.<\/p>\n
