\"\"\/NEW DELHI: Tata Electronics<\/a> has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ASML<\/a>, under which the Dutch firm will supply lithography tools and solutions for the Indian company\u2019s upcoming 300mm (12-inch) semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis collaboration is an important step in the context of the intensifying strategic collaboration between India and the Netherlands in the field of critical technologies, such as semiconductor technology<\/a>,\u201d the companies said in a joint statement on Saturday. <\/p>\n

Additionally, both companies will jointly work to develop domestic talent, supply chain, and research initiatives to support the long-term success of Tata Electronics\u2019 Dholera Fab. <\/p>\n

The pact was signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi<\/a> and the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Rob Jetten. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe two Prime Ministers welcomed the decision of Tata Electronics and ASML<\/a> to partner together for India\u2019s first front-end semiconductor Fab in Gujarat,\u201d PM Modi<\/a>\u2019s office said in an official statement, adding that PM Modi<\/a> highlighted the partnership is an important step in India\u2019s journey for developing a semiconductor ecosystem in the country.<\/p>\n

PM Modi is in the Netherlands as part of a high-profile European tour focused heavily on clean technologies, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing.<\/p>\n

\u201cASML\u2019s deep expertise in holistic lithography solutions will ensure the timely ramp of our fab in Dholera, create a resilient and trusted supply chain for our global customers, drive innovation, and develop talent locally,\u201d Randheer Thakur, CEO & MD, Tata Electronics, said. <\/p>\n

\u201cIndia\u2019s rapidly expanding semiconductor sector represents many compelling opportunities, and we are committed to establishing long-term partnerships in the region. Signing this Memorandum of Understanding today marks an important milestone, and we look forward to close collaboration with Tata Electronics and its broader ecosystem,\u201d said Christophe Fouquet, president & CEO, ASML. <\/p>\n

Tata Electronics is developing India’s first 300mm commercial fab in Dholera, Gujarat, with a planned total investment of $11 billion to manufacture semiconductors for automotive, mobile devices, artificial intelligence (AI), and other key segments, to serve customers globally.<\/p>\n

Tata Electronics has strategically partnered with key global customers and ecosystem companies, including PSMC (Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, Taiwan), thereby gaining access to a broad technology portfolio including 28nm, 40nm, 55nm, 90nm, and 110nm. <\/p>\n

Construction of the plant is progressing rapidly, as per the statement. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, PM Modi and his counterpart PM Jetten also welcomed the adoption of a memorandum of cooperation between the Eindhoven University of Technology and University of Twente and six Indian leading Technical Institutes \u2013 IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Madras \u2013 for a brain bridge in semiconductors and related technologies, with industry partnership from NXP, ASML, Tata and CG Semi. <\/p>\n

This cooperation is expected to catalyse R&D and talent development, with participation from both countries’ academia and industry.\n <\/p>\n
