AP-Yonhap<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">ASML, the Dutch advanced semiconductor equipment maker that counts TSMC and Samsung Electronics among its major customers, will partner with Tata Electronics to establish India&#8217;s first front-end semiconductor manufacturing plant. The deal aligns the interests of India, which is making large-scale investments to boost its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, with those of the Netherlands, which is seeking new manufacturing bases and markets beyond China.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">According to Reuters on Thursday (local time), the two companies issued a joint statement in The Hague, the Netherlands, announcing an agreement under which ASML will provide technical support for a 300mm wafer-based semiconductor manufacturing plant that Tata Electronics is developing in Dholera, Gujarat, India. Tata Electronics is investing $11 billion (approximately 16.5 trillion won) to build the Gujarat plant, which will produce chips for use in automobiles, mobile devices, artificial intelligence (AI), and other applications. The two companies also agreed to cooperate on cultivating talent for India&#8217;s semiconductor industry, building supply chains, and creating research and development infrastructure to support the manufacturing plant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof attended the event. India has pledged billions of dollars in subsidies to foster its semiconductor industry and attract manufacturing, with the goal of standing alongside major chip-producing nations by 2032. In addition to this project, the Indian government is reportedly supporting eight other projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Dutch semiconductor companies, hit by export restrictions stemming from the U.S.-China technology rivalry, have been looking for new manufacturing bases and markets to replace China. &#8220;India&#8217;s rapidly growing semiconductor sector offers attractive opportunities, and we are committed to building long-term partnerships in the region,&#8221; ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi urged Dutch companies to invest in India in the areas of semiconductors, renewable energy, digital technology, and healthcare, and the two leaders also pledged early implementation of the India-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the Indian government said.
