{"id":13589,"date":"2026-05-18T16:54:33","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T16:54:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/13589\/"},"modified":"2026-05-18T16:54:33","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T16:54:33","slug":"the-netherlands-rethinks-its-us-tech-addiction-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/13589\/","title":{"rendered":"The Netherlands rethinks its US tech addiction \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As Dutch lawmakers in the parliament\u2019s digital affairs committee met Tuesday to debate the issue, they received a <a href=\"https:\/\/actie.degoedezaak.org\/petitions\/stop-de-amerikaanse-overname-digid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">petition<\/a> signed by 140,000 people calling on the government to block the acquisition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the Dutch government does something that [U.S. President Donald] Trump doesn\u2019t like, he can shut down our government with one push of a button,\u201d the petition reads. \u201cThat\u2019s a big danger.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The debate over DigiD has put the spotlight on a topic that has been simmering for a while.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With the Netherlands a long-time proponent of the transatlantic relationship, Dutch society is built on U.S. technology and IT services \u2014 as is the country\u2019s government.
