While the automaker continues to push upscale trims, premium technology, and high-performance offerings, many longtime Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, and Ram customers have been asking the same question: where are the affordable vehicles?

In this article▾

Dealers Say Affordable Cars Matter
The “Pronto” Name Has History
Filosa Says Affordability Is A Priority
Chrysler Could Use A New Entry-Level Vehicle

Now, it appears Stellantis could finally be preparing to address that issue.

According to a recent report from The Detroit News, select retailers were shown a possible future Chrysler entry-level vehicle during a meeting at the automaker’s Auburn Hills, Michigan campus last fall. The vehicle reportedly carried a familiar name from Chrysler’s concept car past: “Pronto.”

The reported vehicle was described as a smaller and more affordable Chrysler product that could start somewhere in the $20,000 price range. Back in the late-1990s, Plymouth introduced the Pronto Concept at the 1997 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The compact hatchback featured retro-inspired styling mixed with modern design themes. It also helped inspire later concepts like the Pronto Spyder and Pronto Cruizer.

Eventually, those styling ideas evolved into the Chrysler PT Cruiser, which became one of Chrysler’s biggest sales successes during the early 2000s.

If Stellantis really is revisiting the Pronto name internally, it could signal that the company is once again thinking about affordable compact transportation with distinctive styling rather than simply chasing luxury margins.

Filosa Says Affordability Is A Priority

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="94600" data-permalink="https://moparinsiders.com/stellantis-investigating-sub-30k-u-s-vehicles-for-brands/stellantis-ceo-antonio-filosa-at-the-2026-detroit-auto-show-moparinsiders-1/" data-orig-file="https://www.europesays.com/netherlands/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Stellantis-CEO-Antonio-Filosa-at-the-2026-Detroit-Auto-Show.-MoparInsiders.-1.jpeg" data-orig-size="2203,1239" data-comments-opened="0" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"1.78","credit":"","camera":"iPhone 16 Pro Max","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1768391633","copyright":"","focal_length":"6.7649998656528","iso":"80","shutter_speed":"0.016129032258065","title":"","orientation":"1"}" data-image-title="Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa at the 2026 Detroit Auto Show.
