Netherlands soccer fans embark on the Orange Fanwalk in Munich, marching to the stadium before a match.<\/p>\n

Soccer fans from the Netherlands have a tradition of marching to the stadium before their team’s soccer game. Their match in Houston on June 20 will be no different.<\/p>\n

On that Saturday, as many as thousands of fans of the Netherlands’ soccer team, officially called the Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbalbond (KNVB), will sport orange outfits and march from Rice University Stadium to NRG Stadium on Saturday, June 20.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe strength of Oranje lies in the connection between the team and the fans,” Marianne van Leeuwen, director of professional football for KNVB, said in a press release. “We are so looking forward to the matchdays and the unique Oranje experience we create together. Our goal is to give every fan an unforgettable experience, and we are grateful to Houston for coloring the city orange alongside us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2.5-mile march will be coordinated by KNVB and the Houston Police Department, according to a press release shared by the KNVB team. Live entertainment will begin at 8 a.m., and the march will start at 8:45, led by the Oranje Bus, a staple for Netherlands’ fans, which has been brought to North America from Europe.<\/p>\n

Though street closures will happen on a rolling basis, according to the press release, representatives from HPD did not immediately provide details on those closures and the coordination of the march to Houston Public Media.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe arrival of the Oranje fans is going to bring incredible energy to our city,” Chris Canetti, president of Houston’s World Cup host committee, said in a statement. “Houston welcomes thousands of Dutch supporters with open arms and cannot wait for all the festivities ahead. We are proud our city will serve as the backdrop for this orange spectacle.\u201d<\/p>\n
