Like all of the other major chip firms at the show, the Dutch chip designer has come to talk about AI. While the other major keynotes have focused at least in part on data center AI, NXP\u2019s expertise is entirely in edge devices. This is part of the reason why they are a major player in the industry, but they have little name recognition outside of it.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering NXP\u2019s keynote for Computex 2006 is CEO Rafael Sotomayor. NXP is a regular presenter for Computex keynotes, though this is Sotomayor\u2019s first keynote as the company\u2019s boss. Sotomayor, in turn, will be delivering a keynote titled \u201cBringing AI into the Real World: The Future of Physical Intelligence.\u201d It will focus on how NXP is bringing AI to edge devices, particularly physical AI\/robotics. And what NXP\u2019s design goals and design strategies are to accomplish this.<\/p>\n<p>As a quick note, this was a live blog-style post that was published a bit later.<\/p>\n<p>NXP Computex 2026 Keynote<\/p>\n<p>And Sotomayor wastes no time on this roughly 40-minute keynote, jumping right in to things once he\u2019s introduced and brought on stage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.servethehome.com\/?attachment_id=101004\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-101004 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-101004\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/NXP-Compute-2026-Keynote-Rafael-Sotomayor-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"NXP Compute 2026 Keynote Rafael Sotomayor\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\"  \/><\/a>NXP Compute 2026 Keynote Rafael Sotomayor<\/p>\n<p>His first subject? Soccer, referencing (but not name-dropping) the World Cup, which starts in just a week.<\/p>\n<p>What makes these players elite? It is not fitness or knowledge, because that describes all of the players.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.servethehome.com\/?attachment_id=101003\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-101003 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-101003\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/NXP-Compute-2026-Keynote-Soccer-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"NXP Compute 2026 Keynote Soccer\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\"  \/><\/a>NXP Compute 2026 Keynote Soccer<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the mastering of the task. Executing at the highest level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sotomayor sees plenty of examples of physical AI at Computex. And he ponders what \u201celite\u201d looks like for physical AI devices.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing the soccer analogy, Sotomayor is now talking about Lionel Messi, and his quick reaction and reflexes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.servethehome.com\/?attachment_id=101002\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-101002 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-101002\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/NXP-Compute-2026-Keynote-Messi-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"NXP Compute 2026 Keynote Messi\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\"  \/><\/a>NXP Compute 2026 Keynote Messi<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExcellence is not about thinking harder. It\u2019s about mastering the task so deeply that thinking becomes unnecessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And now, bringing this back to products, he throws up a more generalized example of human reflexes and motion. Something amazing is always happening; be it AI, vehicles, etc.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of that is happening in cloud AI. But now AI is moving to the real world \u2013 the edge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.servethehome.com\/?attachment_id=100998\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-100998 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-100998\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/NXP-Compute-2026-Keynote-NXP-Edge-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"NXP Compute 2026 Keynote NXP Edge\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\"  \/><\/a>NXP Compute 2026 Keynote NXP Edge<\/p>\n<p>The edge is where NXP shines. Highly efficient, highly secure.<\/p>\n<p>As AI moves to the edge, now all these devices get intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>But they still need to solve Moravec\u2019s Paradox.<\/p>\n<p>The answer will come from humans, where it was already solved.<\/p>\n<p>Human intelligence does not entirely reside in the brain; parts of it also reside elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.servethehome.com\/?attachment_id=100997\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-100997 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-100997\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/NXP-Compute-2026-Keynote-Cerebrum-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"NXP Compute 2026 Keynote Cerebrum\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\"  \/><\/a>NXP Compute 2026 Keynote Cerebrum<\/p>\n<p>The cerebrum is 80%. Reasoning, decision making, etc.<\/p>\n<p>But this is not where the fastest responses get resolved.<\/p>\n<p>Sotomayor is relating this via a story about also getting run over by a scooter in Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>The 300ms response time of the cerebrum is too long for quick reactions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.servethehome.com\/?attachment_id=100996\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-100996 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-100996\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/NXP-Compute-2026-Keynote-Cerebellum-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"NXP Compute 2026 Keynote Cerebellum\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\"  \/><\/a>NXP Compute 2026 Keynote Cerebellum<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThink of the cerebellum as the co-processor for motion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is still not fast enough. Faster means safer. And the lowest possible energy use. Flight planning is one action, flight balance is another. Everything needs resolved inside of 40ms.<\/p>\n<p>Processors in the limbs own their function locally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIntelligence is not about a bigger brain.\u201d \u201cThink about a neural axis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But motion and movement are not the same as understanding.<\/p>\n<p>Not understanding \u201cwhy\u201d is not okay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do we teach a robot not only how to move, but how to understand?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Human children learn from experience (and a lot of mistakes).<\/p>\n<p>It creates a physical model in our heads. But does it understand the physics of the bottle and liquid?<\/p>\n<p>Needs to understand inertia and friction.<\/p>\n<p>So a bridge is needed between perception and understanding.<\/p>\n<p>How do you teach robots physics? Today, we do it ourselves. Robots learn from humans.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.servethehome.com\/?attachment_id=100985\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-100985 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-100985\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/NXP-Compute-2026-Keynote-Human-Training-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"NXP Compute 2026 Keynote Human Training\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\"  \/><\/a>NXP Compute 2026 Keynote Human Training<\/p>\n<p>It is a slow and expensive process.<\/p>\n<p>This is where world models come in. Generate (or inject) knowledge through simulation, rather than physical testing.<\/p>\n<p>Vision Language Action (VLA) models are the bridge between seeing, perceiving, and understanding.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.servethehome.com\/?attachment_id=100984\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-100984 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-100984\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/NXP-Compute-2026-Keynote-VLAs-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"NXP Compute 2026 Keynote VLAs\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\"  \/><\/a>NXP Compute 2026 Keynote VLAs<\/p>\n<p>Sotomayor considers it one of the most fascinating research areas in academia.<\/p>\n<p>VLAs continue to get better. Now, how do we get these complex models into constrained edge devices?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.servethehome.com\/?attachment_id=100983\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-100983 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-100983\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/NXP-Compute-2026-Keynote-eIQ-Toolkit-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"NXP Compute 2026 Keynote EIQ Toolkit\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\"  \/><\/a>NXP Compute 2026 Keynote EIQ Toolkit<\/p>\n<p>NXP\u2019s answer to that is their eIQ toolkit, which can import, prune, and quantize them for the target use case.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a robot being useful is not the same as being trustworthy.
