(KCTV) &#8211; Downtown Parkville is transforming into an orange celebration as Team Netherlands trains just seven minutes away in Riverside.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Starting this week, the city is painting itself orange to welcome the Dutch team and their fans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cTo be surrounded by it is just&#8230; I get chills,\u201d said Denise Glanzer, the owner of White Farmhouse Flowers, which is showing off Dutch pride with orange t-shirts and signs that say \u201cwelcome the orange.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>City prepares for visitor surge<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Parkville Mayor Dean Katerndahl said banners will go up around Downtown on Friday. With a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kctv5.com\/2026\/06\/09\/new-express-shuttle-links-parkville-riverside-north-kc-fifa-fan-fest\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.kctv5.com\/2026\/06\/09\/new-express-shuttle-links-parkville-riverside-north-kc-fifa-fan-fest\/\">Northland transportation plan<\/a> announced, the city is ready to welcome buses full of visitors dropping off in downtown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cYou can catch a bus from there and go right down to FanFest,\u201d Katerndahl said. \u201cSo we\u2019re excited about that, right? Get more people in here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>American Legion becomes official fan gathering spot<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The transformation is a team effort between the city and local businesses. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/p\/American-Legion-Post-318-Parkville-MO-100064335773629\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/p\/American-Legion-Post-318-Parkville-MO-100064335773629\/\">American Legion<\/a> is an official gathering place for Netherland fans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe are turning our entire space and part of the city space into a Dutch soccer bar,\u201d said Chris Wallingford, commander for the Parkville American Legion. \u201cWe are trying to replicate what Europe does in a small piece.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The effort is catching the attention of the Kansas City Dutch Club.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe talked to Chris. We shared some pictures with him of what bars look like in the Netherlands. Wrapped in orange with thousands of flags. And he\u2019s replicating the same thing,\u201d said Patrick Bakker, president of the Kansas City Dutch Club.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The transformation will be complete on Saturday, officially making the small alley bar the watch party location in town.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThis is going to be an orange hotspot. And we invite everybody to come here and join us to celebrate,\u201d Bakker said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Not just for fun, but the American Legion bar is run by volunteers, and proceeds support local veterans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Just a block away from Downtown at Park University, Team Bolivia held a secret training Tuesday night ahead of their friendly match with Algeria.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KCTV.
