KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – With Team Netherlands based on the Plaza and playing at Kansas City Stadium this week, team pride around town is starting to shift from Royals blue and Chiefs red to Dutch orange.<\/p>\n
Charlie Hustle, home to Kansas City merchandise, has plenty of its iconic tees in stock. But when it comes to Netherlands gear, the story is different.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve just been making them as fast as we can, to be honest,\u201d said Joey Mendez of Charlie Hustle.<\/p>\n
Orange shirts for the Dutch are flying off the shelves.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt needs to be orange because the whole fan base wears orange, which we now have this one as well as another orange tee, and they\u2019re all just sold out,\u201d Mendez said.<\/p>\n
The store\u2019s whole orange inventory was gone in just one day.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople come in from other stores. They\u2019re like, we heard you might have an orange tee. And we\u2019re like, we\u2019re trying,\u201d Mendez said.<\/p>\n
Orange wave spreads across metro<\/p>\n
That orange wave is reaching all corners of the metro.<\/p>\n
Jennifer Brown owns Vintage Style KC. When she heard the team would be practicing just down the street from her downtown Parkville store, she wanted in on the orange excitement.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was sort of kind of by accident. Kind of not. But I just went looking for a shirt that had the Netherlands and also had Kansas City on it,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n
She placed an order for an orange shirt to be sold at her store. A unique color she didn\u2019t have before. And she\u2019s quickly learned everyone was looking for one.<\/p>\n
\u201cI ordered from there and then sold those out. And then I made another order and I sold those out. And then I made another order and I sold those out. So we\u2019re going on order number four at this point,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n
The trend is coming to a head on Thursday when the Dutch take the pitch against Tunisia. Along with the game, comes the Orange Army and doubledecker Orange bus. Fans follow the bus before kick-off. In other host cities, this has resulted in a sea of orange in the streets.<\/p>\n
So now with the game here just days away, Charlie Hustle says they\u2019re working quickly to keep up with demand.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m actually going to pick up more. They\u2019re making them today. I\u2019m going to pick up more this afternoon for the store,\u201d Mendez said.<\/p>\n
Mendez said that the order will hit shelves Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Charlie Hustle locations on the Plaza and Oak Park Mall.<\/p>\n
