July 21 (Reuters) – Mobileye Global will supply Stellantis with cloud-driven advanced driver-assistance technology, the Israeli company said \u200con Tuesday, as automakers race to meet rising demand \u200cfor connected safety systems. <\/p>\n
The ADAS hardware maker’s shares were up about 6% \u200bin premarket trading. <\/p>\n
The companies said select models from Stellantis, the parent of Jeep and Chrysler, will integrate Mobileye’s Road Experience Management technology from 2027, using crowdsourced road data to improve \u200clane keeping and hands-free \u2060driving. <\/p>\n
ADAS has become one of the auto industry’s fastest-growing technologies as carmakers race to offer \u2060increasingly sophisticated safety and convenience features and generate higher-margin software revenue. <\/p>\n
The technology is widely seen as a step toward fully autonomous \u200bdriving, \u200bthough regulators still require drivers \u200bto remain attentive when using \u200chands-free systems. <\/p>\n
The first applications are expected in select U.S. Stellantis models next year, with wider rollout subject to vehicle platform and configuration. <\/p>\n
Stellantis will be the fifth of the world’s 10 largest automakers to contribute data to Mobileye’s REM platform, \u200cwhich covers more than 95% of \u200bpublic roads in the United States \u200band Europe. More \u200bthan 8 million vehicles logged 34 billion miles \u200cof data on the platform \u200blast year, Mobileye \u200bsaid. <\/p>\n
Jerusalem-based Mobileye’s system collects road data through front-facing cameras in EyeQ-equipped vehicles and combines it with cloud-based mapping \u200bintelligence. That allows \u200cvehicles to receive real-time updates on lane markings, road \u200blayouts and construction zones. <\/p>\n
