The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/07\/29\/sk-hynix-earnings-profit-revenue-hbm-memory.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">chip giant missed analysts&#8217; estimates<\/a> despite posting record quarterly profit and revenue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Samsung Electronics lost more than 5%, while LG Innotek fell 10.89% and Seoul Semiconductor dropped 8.89%.<\/p>\n<p>In Europe, chip stocks were also lower. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/ASML\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ASML<\/a> fell 3.85%, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/ASM-NL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ASM International<\/a> fell 9.26% and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/BESI-NL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BESI<\/a> dropped 3.54%.<\/p>\n<p>The latest weakness in Asian chip stocks reflects &#8220;the ongoing deleveraging process in Korea and softer sentiment towards global technology stocks,&#8221; said Kieron Poon, investment director of Asian equities at Aberdeen Investments, in a Tuesday note. However, he added that the recent volatility &#8220;has not changed our long-term positive view.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Japanese chip names also declined. Japan&#8217;s computer memory manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/285A.T-JP\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kioxia<\/a> was down 13.85%. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/2760.T-JP\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tokyo Electron<\/a> fell 10.59%, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/9984.T-JP\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SoftBank Group<\/a>, a major AI investment proxy through its stake in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/ARM\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Arm<\/a>, lost 6.95%.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwan&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/TSM\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TSMC<\/a>, the world&#8217;s largest contract chip manufacturer, was 3.51% lower.<\/p>\n<p>Mainland China&#8217;s tech-heavy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/159836-CN\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ChiNext 300 index<\/a> gained 1.43%, while the\u00a0 Hang Seng China Semiconductor Chips Index fell 2.5%.<\/p>\n<p>The declines in Asia came on the heels of another weak session for U.S. semiconductor stocks overnight.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NVDA\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nvidia<\/a> sank at the open but closed the session flat. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/INTC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Intel<\/a> dropped nearly 6% and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AMD\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AMD<\/a> lost 8%. Memory space names <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/MU\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Micron<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/STX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seagate<\/a> lost more than 8%, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/WDC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Western Digital<\/a> sank nearly 7% and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SNDK\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sandisk<\/a> shed 14%. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SKHY\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SK Hynix<\/a>\u00a0U.S. shares dropped 9%.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the sharp pullback, Aberdeen sees the sell-off as an opportunity rather than a deterioration in fundamentals. &#8220;The recent market pullback has brought valuations to more attractive levels, creating opportunities for us to add exposure to high quality businesses at more reasonable prices,&#8221; Poon said.<\/p>\n<p>The recent pullback in AI-related chip stocks reflects investors &#8220;giving back a little bit of the froth that was in the AI market,&#8221; David Riedel, founder and president of Riedel Research Group, told CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/asia-squawk-box\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Squawk Box Asia<\/a>&#8221; on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>While concerns over AI financing and rising Chinese competition have weighed on sentiment, &#8220;the market is healthy,&#8221; he said, adding that memory chipmakers &#8220;will be fine&#8221;
