A large wildfire in the southern Netherlands has forced the evacuation of a nearby campsite as firefighters battle rapidly spreading flames with support from two military helicopters.<\/p>\n
The fire broke out Monday in the municipality of Venray in Limburg province, with Dutch authorities deploying defense helicopters as dry conditions increased the risk of further spread.<\/p>\n
The blaze has spread across both sides of a railway line running through a nature reserve, prompting the suspension of train services between Boxmeer and Venray.<\/p>\n
Nearly 21 hectares of land were burning, and the fire<\/a> remained out of control as strong winds pushed the flames northward, according to a spokesperson quoted by Dutch broadcaster NOS.<\/p>\n \u201cNearly 21 hectares are on fire, and the fire is not under control. The wind is picking up and the flames are still spreading towards the north,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n Authorities also evacuated a nearby campsite as a precaution. Around 30 people were moved to a hotel while firefighters continued working to contain the blaze.<\/p>\n The fire department said it would take additional measures in the area and assess whether further evacuations would be necessary.<\/p>\n Firefighting operations are expected to continue for a prolonged period as crews work to prevent the flames from reaching nearby railway tracks.<\/p>\n The deployment of military helicopters marks a major escalation in the response as Dutch authorities confront the rapidly spreading wildfire amid dry conditions and strengthening winds.<\/p>\n
