{"id":35996,"date":"2026-08-04T17:29:22","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T17:29:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/35996\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T17:29:22","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T17:29:22","slug":"airbus-thales-to-build-military-communications-satellite-for-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/35996\/","title":{"rendered":"Airbus, Thales to Build Military Communications Satellite for Spain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/dronefront.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">&#13;<br \/>\n    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/WhatsAppVideo2026-05-15at09.23.58.gif\" alt=\"The Drone Front\" width=\"1280\" height=\"539\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Airbus Defence and Space and Thales Alenia Space will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thalesgroup.com\/en\/news-centre\/press-releases\/hisdesat-strengthens-strategic-capabilities-spains-ministry-defence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">build<\/a> SpainSat NG III under a new contract from Hisdesat, expanding Spain\u2019s secure military satellite communications capabilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The satellite is scheduled for launch in the third quarter of 2030 and is expected to enter operational service in early 2031.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SpainSat NG III will provide secure communications in the X, military Ka, and UHF bands, while adding greater capacity, operational flexibility, and protection against jamming and other electronic warfare threats.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Airbus Defence and Space will serve as the satellite\u2019s prime contractor, building on its work on the existing SpainSat NG satellites. Thales Alenia Space will act as co-contractor, with more than 10 Spanish companies contributing technologies to the project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the industrial arrangement, Airbus will develop the X-band communications payload, while Thales will build the military Ka-band and UHF payloads.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Spain Boosts Military Satellite Comms<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The latest satellite will complete the SpainSat NG architecture, which is described as the largest space program ever developed by the Spanish industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once combined with SpainSat NG I, the third satellite will provide coverage from the US and South America across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, extending as far as Singapore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, in October 2025, Spain completed its next-generation military satellite constellation with <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2025\/10\/24\/spain-satellite-florida-launch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">the launch of SpainSat NG-II<\/a> aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The launch followed the <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2025\/02\/03\/spain-launches-communications-satellite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">successful deployment of SpainSat NG-I in January 2025<\/a>, completing what Spain has described as its most advanced defense communications satellite program to date.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&#13; &#13; Airbus Defence and Space and Thales Alenia Space will build SpainSat NG III under a new&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":35997,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[60],"tags":[90,667,23244,5551],"class_list":["post-35996","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-airbus","tag-airbus","tag-spain","tag-spainsat-ng-satellite","tag-thales"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/35996","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=35996"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/35996\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/35997"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=35996"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=35996"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=35996"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
