With the TEF8388, we’re enabling OEMs to push radar performance to the next level, accelerating safer and more automated driving functions across their entire fleet line-ups.”

NXP described the transceiver as a core element in its radar sensing portfolio, supporting configurations from 8T8R up to 32T32R.

The device can be combined with NXP radar processors, including the S32R4 series, to build a scalable imaging radar platform intended to meet varying performance, cost and regulatory requirements.

NXP said the TEF8388 addresses a system-level challenge in which higher channel counts have typically increased power consumption, cost and integration effort, slowing adoption.

According to NXP, the TEF8388 keeps power usage comparable to today’s three-transmit/four-receive devices.

NXP also said the architecture, pin assignment and launcher placement improve channel isolation and signal quality.

The design can lower the system bill of materials by reducing the amount of power and thermal management components required.

Separately, Forvia Hella recently said it is using NXP’s radar transceiver technology for next-generation radar sensor solutions.

The first high-resolution radar programme for a major car OEM featuring the TEF8388 and S32R47 is expected to enter series production in mid-2028.

NXP said development support for lead customers is available now, with mass-market support planned for later in 2026.

NXP and Forvia Hella will present their joint solution at Tech.AD Europe in Berlin on 23–24 March, including a technical talk and a live driving demonstration of the radar system.

“NXP unveils third-generation RFCMOS automotive radar transceiver” was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand.

The information on this site has been included in good faith for general informational purposes only.
