{"id":5840,"date":"2026-04-25T03:41:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-25T03:41:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/5840\/"},"modified":"2026-04-25T03:41:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T03:41:07","slug":"cops-shoot-at-arrest-harlem-gunman-after-he-shoots-rival-and-is-shot-at-by-a-third-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/netherlands\/5840\/","title":{"rendered":"Cops shoot at, arrest Harlem gunman after he shoots rival and is shot at by a third man"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police opened fire on a shooting suspect after a man was wounded by gunfire outside a convenience store in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/02\/20\/woman-found-dead-harlem-apartment-head-trauma\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Harlem<\/a> Friday, cops said.<\/p>\n<p>The violence erupted when the shooter walked up to a man sitting outside a minimart on W. 125th St. near Amsterdam Ave. and started firing at him around 6:20 p.m., striking him multiple times, according to NYPD Assistant Chief Aaron Edwards.<\/p>\n<p>Two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/04\/20\/nypd-cops-should-have-used-body-worn-cameras-in-brooklyn-liquor-store-rough-arrest\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">plainclothes officers<\/a> who were driving west in an unmarked vehicle witnessed the shooting and leaped out of the car to chase the shooter on foot.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"The original shooter's gun in the chaotic Friday evening incident was recovered at the scene at 125th St. and Amsterdam Ave. in Harlem. (Kerry Burke \/ New York Daily News)<\/p>\n<p>But as the shooter rounded the corner heading north onto Amsterdam Ave., a second gunman entered the intersection from the southwest corner of W. 125th St. and Amsterdam Ave. and shot at the fleeing suspect.<\/p>\n<p>One of the officers also fired on the suspect, who was struck once in the stomach. It\u2019s unclear whether he was wounded by police or the second gunman, Edwards said.<\/p>\n<p>Several bullets whizzed past one of the cops as he pursued the shooter and struck an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/04\/22\/man-woman-arrested-stabbing-pepper-spraying-bronx-health-clinic-guard\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">urgent care clinic<\/a> behind him, Edwards said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"The wild chain of events was sparked when the first gunman opened fire at a man in front of a convenience store. (Kerry Burke \/ New York Daily News)<\/p>\n<p>A witness told the Daily News he heard the shots ring out and looked over to see the cops apprehending the suspect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were shots, lots of shots,\u201d said the man, who declined to give his name. \u201cThe cops pull up and get out of the car, and then he was down. He was in the middle of the street, and they handcuffed him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both the suspect and the shooting victim were taken to St. Luke\u2019s Hospital, where they are expected to survive.<\/p>\n<p>A police source said the first gunman was targeting two rivals when he opened fire outside the convenience store.
