Reports of various symptoms and environmental issues have drawn attention from regulators and sparked internal frustration, just as the company looks to strengthen in-person collaboration.

According to documents obtained by The Detroit News, Michigan regulators were alerted earlier this year after complaints suggested that dozens of employees were experiencing unexplained health issues after returning to the office. These concerns appeared to be concentrated in certain parts of the office tower at the Auburn Hills campus, prompting a formal complaint to MIOSHA in February.

The complaint alleged that employees were being required to work on-site despite ongoing health concerns and pointed to potential environmental causes such as mold or airborne contaminants. Workers also described seeing black dust, noticing musty odors, and even encountering pest issues such as mice and rats. Some employees reportedly refused to return to the office altogether due to these concerns.

This marked a significant moment, as it coincided with Stellantis’ transition from a hybrid work model to a full five-day, in-office requirement for white-collar employees. However, in early 2025, the company began tightening its policies, first requiring three days in the office and later mandating a full return under its “Back Together We Win” initiative.

The company emphasized that bringing employees back together would improve collaboration, speed up decision-making, and strengthen workplace culture. But for many workers, the shift has been anything but smooth.

Internal discussions reportedly took place, including meetings involving large groups of employees voicing concerns about the building environment. At the same time, online forums, particularly Reddit have become a space where workers openly share frustrations. Posts have ranged from complaints about air quality and building maintenance to broader dissatisfaction with the return-to-office mandate itself.

Some employees have even discussed exploring unionization efforts, pointing to a growing sense of unease among the workforce.

What MIOSHA Found
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="96912" data-permalink="https://moparinsiders.com/stellantis-workers-frustrated-over-parking-tickets-for-rival-vehicles/dsc04417/" data-orig-file="https://www.europesays.com/netherlands/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/DSC04417-scaled.jpg" data-orig-size="2560,1440" data-comments-opened="0" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"5.6","credit":"","camera":"ILCE-7M4","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1774810702","copyright":"","focal_length":"70","iso":"100","shutter_speed":"0.003125","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Parking Signs on the CTC Campus in Auburn Hills, Michigan. (MoparInsiders).

Following the complaint, MIOSHA conducted an inspection of several areas within the 15-story tower at the CTC campus. Inspectors reviewed internal air quality testing data, interviewed employees, and examined the building for potential environmental hazards.

The findings were somewhat mixed. While the agency did not issue any formal citations or violations against Stellantis, it did identify areas for improvement.

Air quality testing conducted by the company showed that mold spore levels inside the building were “slightly elevated” compared to outdoor levels. However, these levels were still considered generally acceptable for indoor environments. Stellantis attributed the elevated counts, in part, to the presence of indoor plants.

Importantly, MIOSHA inspectors did not find evidence of active leaks, water damage, or conditions that would typically support significant mold growth. Still, the agency acknowledged that it does not have a defined standard for what constitutes a “safe” level of mold exposure.

As a result, MIOSHA closed the case without penalties but provided a list of recommendations aimed at improving indoor air quality and preventing future issues. These included increasing fresh air circulation, monitoring carbon dioxide levels, maintaining proper humidity and temperature ranges, and continuing preventive maintenance on ventilation systems.

Stellantis Responds
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="77883" data-permalink="https://moparinsiders.com/stellantis-ends-remote-work-to-boost-quality-and-sales/image-59-5/" data-orig-file="https://www.europesays.com/netherlands/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Image-59-1-e1729053959398.jpeg" data-orig-size="2048,1153" data-comments-opened="0" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"1"}" data-image-title="Chrysler Tech Center (CTC) in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
