Slot had already tried to take him to Anfield soon after his own appointment in 2024, but that move was reportedly blocked due to work permit issues.

With Reijnen now further along in his coaching qualifications, those obstacles may be easier to overcome – and Slot appears eager to revisit the idea.

Reijnen had been brought to De Kuip by Slot himself in November 2023, arriving from SC Cambuur where he had been serving as technical director, taking on the title of Analyst and Technical Staff Advisor at Feyenoord. In practice, however, he functioned as a full assistant coach.

Because Reijnen had never held an official coaching title at Feyenoord — his role had been structured around the “analyst” designation precisely because he lacked the required coaching diplomas — he could not meet the criteria needed to obtain a UK work permit.

Fast forward to 2026, and Reijnen now forms part of Robin van Persie’s technical staff at Feyenoord, having stayed on through several managerial changes at the club.

Earlier this week, Dutch reporter Valentijn Driessen claimed that Slot was once again looking to bring Reijnen to Anfield, which was later corroborated by widespread reports.

Now Robin van Persie has responded to the interest, suggesting that the decision is out of his hands and is rather resting on Reijnen’s and Feyenoord:

“It is mainly up to the club and to Etienne herself. What I can say is that I am very happy with his work. He is a fantastic person, who also fulfills his role very well,” he said as quoted by Voetbal Primuer.

Arne Slot is reviewing his backroom staff and there is also suggestions that John Heitinga could make a welcome return to the club after leaving for a ill-fated stint at Ajax in May last year.

Image Credits: Imago Images Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie has responded to Liverpool’s reported interest in his assistant…

[4
6541,193,2470,41
0":"post-9149","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-rotterdam","8":"tag-etienne-reijnen","9":"tag-feyenoord","10":"tag-robin-van-persie","11":"tag-rotterdam
["GET
