\n\tOttawa\/Canada: AirAsia has agreed to purchase 150 Airbus A220-300 aircraft in what Canada described as the largest order ever placed for a Canadian-designed and manufactured aircraft.<\/p>\n
\n\tCanadian Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomed the agreement on Thursday, saying the aircraft will be assembled at Airbus\u2019s facility in Mirabel, Quebec, supporting jobs across Canada\u2019s aerospace sector.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe A220-300 aircraft are produced at Airbus\u2019s Mirabel, Qu\u00e9bec assembly site, one of the company\u2019s largest commercial aircraft manufacturing operations outside Europe.<\/p>\n

\n\t\tThe facility employs more than 4,600 workers and is part of a broader Canadian aerospace supply chain involving hundreds of suppliers and contractors.<\/p>\n

\n\tOriginally developed in Canada, the A220 programme is known for its fuel efficiency, lower emissions and reduced noise footprint.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe aircraft uses lightweight materials and advanced propulsion systems aimed at improving operating performance.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe deal comes as Canada seeks to expand economic ties across the Indo-Pacific region and attract foreign investment into domestic industries.<\/p>\n

\n\t\tAccording to a statement, Canada secured nearly $100 billion in foreign investment commitments in 2025 and has increased trade engagement with partners in Europe and Asia.<\/p>\n

\n\tCarney visited Malaysia in October 2025 during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit, where he met investors and business leaders, including AirAsia executives, to discuss trade and investment opportunities.<\/p>\n
\n\tAccording to government figures, Canada\u2019s bilateral trade with Malaysia grew nearly 20% in 2025, while the Indo-Pacific region accounted for more than $260 billion in two-way merchandise trade.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Canadian aerospace industry contributed C$34.2 billion ($25 billion) to the country\u2019s gross domestic product in 2024 and supported about 225,000 jobs, according to official data.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
