For the first time ever, Oregon and Oregon State are headed to the same NCAA baseball regional.

The Ducks are the No. 11 seed in the NCAA Tournament and hosting the Eugene Regional at PK Park, where the Beavers, Yale and Washington State are headed this weekend.

Oregon State (43-12) is the No. 2 seed in the regional and will face Washington State (43-12) at 12 p.m. Friday. Oregon (40-16) and Yale (30-13-1) will play at 5 p.m. Friday.

The Ducks erupted during the team’s watch party at PK Park Monday morning when the Beavers were announced as the last team headed to Eugene.

“Who doesn’t love that game?” Oregon third baseman Drew Smith said. “I’ve been here for four years and every time it’s a good game and chirpy and their fans are awesome, our fans are awesome. An environment like that with a lot on the line, you can’t ask for much more than that.”

Oregon coach Mark Wasikowski feels the historic postseason meeting is “great for the fans” of the rival programs, who split two meetings this season.

“You knew that was a possibility when we went into the Big Ten,” Wasikowski said. “They spread conferences and you got us in the Big Ten and you got the all Pac spread out now. With Stanford and Cal being possibilities and all the other leagues now you can really stack West Coast regionals with West Coast teams, where you couldn’t do that before because we were all in the same league. Now that we’re not in the same league we get a chance to do this.”

Friday’s losers will play in an elimination game at 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by the winner’s bracket game at 6 p.m. Sunday’s elimination game is at 1 p.m, followed by the regional final at 6 p.m. Monday’s if-necessary game is at a time to be determined.

The Eugene regional is paired with the Austin Regional and No. 6 seed Texas, which hosts UCSB, Tarleton State and Holy Cross. The winners of the two regionals will play in a best-of-three Super Regional starting June 4.

It’s the second straight year Oregon is hosting a regional and the fifth time in 15 years. UO is making its 14th NCAA Tournament appearance all-time, with a program record six straight under Wasikowski.

It’s the first time Oregon State is traveling for a regional since 2023 and its third time since 2021. OSU has not advanced from the regional round as a visiting team since 2007 and is 11-12 in six regionals as a visitor since.

Oregon State coach Mitch Canham felt his team was deserving of hosting a regional and wanted the Beavers to “be in the moment” when their postseason draw was announced.

“If it’s not what we want or expected, how do we handle that, that’s important,” Canham said on Friday. “If it’s really good, you can still handle that the wrong way. That’s a learning moment for them and we’ll address it based on who I see we react to it.”

It’s the 25th NCAA Tournament appearance for OSU, which is making its ninth straight postseason appearance. The Beavers are 88-51 all-time in the postseason, including 51-29 in NCAA regionals. OSU is 19-13 in the postseason under Canham, including 15-6 in regional play.

Oregon State leads the all-time series with Oregon 198-177. OSU is 2-0 all-time against Yale, which has never played UO.

Washington State leads the all-time series with Oregon 159-138-1, though UO has won the last five meetings of the former Pac-12 foes. The Cougars also lead the series with the Beavers 235-220-3, with the teams splitting a pair of games in Pullman this season.
