\n\tSavannah Guthrie<\/a> returned to NBC<\/a>\u2018s \u201cToday<\/a>\u201d on April 6 amid the continued disappearance of her mother, Nancy. Joined by co-anchor Craig Melvin, Guthrie got right into the news and did not spend any time addressing the ongoing investigation into her mother\u2019s whereabouts. Guthrie tee\u2019d up the morning\u2019s big stories, from Trump\u2019s war in Iran to inflated gas prices, the Artemis II mission to journey around the moon, Prince William and Kate Middleton attending their first Easter service in three years and more.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt is good to be home,\u201d Guthrie declared afterward, the only nod to her absence at the top of the show. \u201cReady or not, let\u2019s do the news.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSo good to have you home,\u201d Melvin added.<\/p>\n

\n\tAbout 20 minutes into the broadcast, Guthrie and Melvin threw to Al Roker for the morning\u2019s first weather update. \u201cI just like looking over here,\u201d Roker said while looking at Guthrie in a loving nod to her return. She replied, \u201cGood morning, sunshine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJenna Bush Hager also embraced Guthrie\u2019s return. Fifty minutes into the broadcast, Hager appeared for her \u201cMorning Boost\u201d segment and reached out to hold Guthrie\u2019s hand and declared: \u201cWe don\u2019t even need a boost because we have our sunshine back.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLater in the show, Guthrie got choked up when she walked out into the \u201cToday\u201d plaza as the public crowd gathered around the studio cheered for her. Many of the fans in attendance were holding signs welcoming Guthrie back to the show. One sign included a photo of Guthrie posing with her mom, Nancy.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThese signs are so beautiful,\u201d Guthrie said fighting through tears. \u201cYou guys have been so beautiful. I\u2019ve received so many letters, so much kindness to me and my whole family. We feel it. We feel your prayers. So thank you so much.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGuthrie announced March 27 <\/a>that she would be returning to the \u201cToday\u201d anchor desk this month as the search for her mother continues. Nancy Guthrie<\/a> was reported missing on Feb. 1, with the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department calling her disappearance a presumed kidnapping after they found concerning evidence at her home in Tucson, Arizona. The FBI joined in the search for Nancy and posted a $100,000 reward for information leading to her recovery. It was later increased to $200,000 and then $1 million on Feb. 24. No arrests have been made in the case, nor have any suspects been publicly revealed.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the interview <\/a>with Hoda Kotb in which Guthrie announced her \u201cToday\u201d return date, she admitted \u201cit\u2019s hard to imagine\u201d coming back to the morning show because \u201cit\u2019s such a place of joy and lightness.\u201d But she also noted that she considers her \u201cToday\u201d co-anchors her family and \u201cwhen times are hard, you want to be with your family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI can\u2019t come back and try to be something that I\u2019m not. But I can\u2019t not come back, because it\u2019s my family,\u201d Guthrie said. \u201cI think it\u2019s part of my purpose right now. I want to smile. And when I do, it will be real. And my joy will be my protest.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe later concluded, \u201cI don\u2019t know if I can do it. I don\u2019t know if I\u2019ll belong anymore. But I would like to try. And I\u2019m not going to be the same, but maybe it\u2019s like that old poem: \u2018More beautiful in the broken places.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
