\n ARLINGTON, Va. (AFNS) — \u00a0<\/p>\n
The Department of the Air Force, in conjunction with the\u00a0Defense Innovation Unit<\/a>, has selected three companies to potentially develop and\u00a0operate\u00a0a microreactor on a DAF installation, as part of the Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations initiative.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The service announced on April 8 that\u00a0Buckley Space Force Base<\/a>, Colorado, and\u00a0Malmstrom Air Force Base<\/a>, Montana, were the first two sites chosen for the ANPI initiative. Additionally, the service has selected\u00a0Joint Base San Antonio<\/a>, Texas, as the third potential location to site a nuclear microreactor under the ANPI initiative.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The selected companies have been paired with a DAF installation, which the service chose as part of its approach to energy resilience, focused on aligning mission requirements and site-specific characteristics.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The ANPI initiative seeks to have at least one advanced nuclear reactor\u00a0operating\u00a0on at least one DAF installation by 2030 or sooner. Next steps include siting and environmental analyses as part of the National Environmental Policy Act process.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
