{"id":22068,"date":"2026-04-29T09:29:24","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T09:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/22068\/"},"modified":"2026-04-29T09:29:24","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T09:29:24","slug":"union-pacifics-big-boy-to-tour-the-northeast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/22068\/","title":{"rendered":"Union Pacific\u2019s Big Boy to Tour the Northeast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The eastern leg of the tour starts May 25 from Cheyenne, Wyoming.<\/p>\n<p>Big Boy officially launched its 2026 coast-to-coast tour on April 10 from downtown Sacramento near historic Milepost 0 \u2013 the site where Central Pacific began construction on the nation\u2019s first transcontinental railroad in 1863.<\/p>\n<p>The route through the Ohio Valley, Pennsylvania and the Northeast reflects the historic role railroads played in shaping America\u2019s economic heartland, connecting factories, ports and population centers and fueling the nation\u2019s growth across generations. For nearly 200 years, Norfolk Southern and its predecessor railroads have served these corridors, helping move the people and goods that built the modern United States.<\/p>\n<p>The eight major public display events are:<\/p>\n<p>May 30 \u2013 Omaha, Nebraska (home of Union Pacific\u2019s headquarters)June 3 \u2013 West Chicago, IllinoisJune 10 \u2013 Buffalo, New YorkJune 15-16 \u2013 Scranton, PennsylvaniaJuly 4-5 \u2013 Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaJuly 9-10 \u2013 Altoona, PennsylvaniaJuly 14 \u2013 Fostoria, OhioJuly 19 \u2013 St. Louis, Missouri<\/p>\n<p>Big Boy will be accompanied on the trip by several historical passenger cars from Union Pacific\u2019s Heritage Fleet, along with two commemorative locomotives:<\/p>\n<p>No. 1616 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.up.com\/about-us\/history\/heritage-fleet\/commemorative\/lincoln-1616\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Abraham Lincoln locomotive<\/a>, which commemorates the country\u2019s 16th president and Union Pacific\u2019s founder,No. 1776 \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.up.com\/about-us\/history\/heritage-fleet\/commemorative\/america250-1776\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">America250<\/a>, which features the emblem of the America250 Semiquincentennial Commission, the national nonpartisan organization established by Congress to lead the nation\u2019s 250th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>On the eastern leg of the trip, Big Boy will be accompanied by Norfolk Southern commemorative locomotives as well as a historical passenger car from Norfolk Southern\u2019s Heritage Fleet.\u00a0 The coast\u2011to\u2011coast tour highlights the histories of Union Pacific in the West and Norfolk Southern and its predecessors in the East, reflecting the shared legacy of American railroads serving as the backbone of the country\u2019s economic growth. In the coming weeks, Norfolk Southern will unveil its commemorative U.S. 250 series.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the public display days, rail fans can see this historic machine in action at whistle-stops, generally 15- to 30- minutes long.
