REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>That military action could include unleashing previously unused weapons to attack US warships deployed in the region \u2014 including mine-carrying dolphins, according to Iranian officials,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/world\/middle-east\/iran-us-blockade-oil-641b89f2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> the Wall Street Journal reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It wouldn\u2019t be the first time the regime has considered deploying kamikaze dolphins.<\/p>\n<p>Iran bought dolphins trained to kill for the Soviet navy in 2000, <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/world\/middle_east\/670551.stm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the BBC reported at the time<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The animals were trained to attack the Islamic Republic\u2019s enemies with harpoons attached to their backs, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>They were also trained to undertake kamikaze strikes against enemy ships by carrying mines.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.58268934;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39252116\" width=\"934\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/handout-image-provided-third-party-126027781.jpg\" alt=\"USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) in the Arabian Sea with an F-35C stealth fighter taking off.\" class=\"wp-image-39252116\"  \/>The Strait of Hormuz has been under a financially crippling US military blockade for weeks.
