Trump suggested he could order new military action<\/a> if there is no progress toward a resolution. “If they misbehave, if they do something bad \u2014 but right now, we’ll see,” Trump told reporters when asked whether he could order fresh strikes against the Iranian regime. “It’s a possibility<\/a> that could happen, certainly.” <\/p>\n

Trump rejected a previous Iranian proposal<\/a>, but conversations have continued, and the three-week ceasefire appears to be holding.<\/p>\n

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi told diplomats in Tehran that \u201cthe ball is in the United States\u2019 court<\/a> to choose the path of diplomacy or the continuation of a confrontational approach,\u201d according to media reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the same time that Trump has been trying to advance peace negotiations with Tehran, the U.S. State Department on Friday approved military sales<\/a> totaling more than $8.6 billion to Middle Eastern allies Israel, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. <\/p>\n

Secretary of State Marco Rubio\u00a0expedited the deals<\/a>\u00a0using an emergency provision that allows the \u201cimmediate sale\u201d of the arms, the State Department said. That procedure bypassed standard congressional review<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, meanwhile, briefed EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Tehran\u2019s latest initiatives aimed at ending the war, Tasnim reported<\/a>.
