Lionel Messi shatters MLS 100 goal contributions record"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another day, another record broken by the legendary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlssoccer.com\/players\/lionel-messi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lionel Messi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During Saturday&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlssoccer.com\/competitions\/mls-regular-season\/2026\/matches\/torvsmia-05-09-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">4-2 win<\/a> at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlssoccer.com\/clubs\/toronto-fc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto FC<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlssoccer.com\/clubs\/inter-miami-cf\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Inter Miami CF<\/a>&#8216;s iconic No. 10 recorded 1g\/2a to become the fastest player in MLS history to reach 100 career goal contributions, doing so in just 64 games.<\/p>\n<p>Messi, who has 59g\/41a since joining the Herons in July 2023, smashed the previous record of 95 games held by Toronto FC legend Sebastian Giovinco.<\/p>\n<p>\n      Fastest players to 100 goal contributions<\/p>\n<p>Lionel Messi (Inter Miami CF): 59g\/41a in 64 games\u00a0<br \/>\nSebastian Giovinco\u00a0(Toronto FC): 58g\/42a in 95 games<br \/>\nRobbie Keane (LA Galaxy): 62g\/39a in 96 games<br \/>\nCarlos Vela (LAFC): 62g\/38a in 98 games<br \/>\nJosef Mart\u00ednez (Atlanta United, CF Montr\u00e9al, San Jose Earthquakes): 88g\/12a in 105 games<br \/>\nDenis Bouanga (LAFC): 69g\/31a in 108 games<\/p>\n<p>\n      Record breaker<\/p>\n<p>Since his Inter Miami introduction, Messi has wasted no time breaking records and achieving milestones across MLS.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The legendary Argentine became the first player in league history to win back-to-back Landon Donovan MLS MVP awards, claiming the honor in both 2024 and 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He also won the Golden Boot presented by Audi last season, and finished the year with an MLS record 62 goal contributions (35g\/28a) across the regular season and Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, leading the Herons to their first MLS Cup presented by Audi triumph along the way.<\/p>\n<p>Besides MLS Cup, Messi has helped the club hoist Leagues Cup and Supporters&#8217; Shield trophies, giving him a world-record 47 career titles for both club and country.<\/p>\n<p>\n      More to prove in 2026<\/p>\n<p>Even after capturing three club trophies and two MVP awards with Miami, Messi&#8217;s work in South Florida is far from done.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the Argentine legend netted his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlssoccer.com\/competitions\/concacaf-champions-cup\/news\/lionel-messi-inter-miami-scores-career-goal-900\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">900th career goal<\/a> during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlssoccer.com\/competitions\/concacaf-champions-cup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Concacaf Champions Cup<\/a> match against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlssoccer.com\/clubs\/nashville-sc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nashville SC<\/a>.
