The newly released video includes footage from the body cameras of two officers. In the footage, Marseille answers her door for the officers as her dog, a 2-year old Bernedoodle named Jameson, can be heard barking.<\/p>\n

They ask her to confine the dog, and after she shuts the door, one officer says to the other, \u201cJeez, that\u2019s a big-ass dog.\u201d As they discuss the dog\u2019s size, the other remarks, \u201cI ain\u2019t gettin\u2019 bit by that, bro.\u201d<\/p>\n
When Marseille opens the door again, she tells the officers that her dog is \u201cnot aggressive.\u201d Jameson, wearing a New York Knicks shirt, walks out of the door and runs towards one of the officers, barking. At that point, the officer fires multiple shots, killing Jameson, as Marseille screams. Witness video of the aftermath showed Marseille<\/a> covering the dog\u2019s body with her own, weeping.<\/p>\n The LAPD footage, which is graphic and disturbing, can be seen here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Brett Greenfield, an attorney for Marseille and her family, condemned the officers\u2019 actions in a statement sent to local news station ABC 7<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cJameson was not the subject of any complaint,\u201d Greenfield wrote. \u201cHe was not threatening the public. He was a beloved family companion inside his own home. Yet a welfare check ended with him dead, his owner traumatized, and serious questions about the judgment and conduct of the officer who pulled the trigger.\u201d<\/p>\n The attorney also wrote that Marseille was \u201cstanding in or near the officer\u2019s line of fire,\u201d adding that it is \u201cfortunate that Marie Marseille is alive today.\u201d<\/p>\n LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell called the incident \u201cincredibly tragic\u201d in a statement released Wednesday<\/a> and promised a \u201cfull and comprehensive review\u2019 of what happened.<\/p>\n Jameson\u2019s killing fueled widespread backlash online \u2014 including from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass<\/a> \u2014 and a GoFundMe<\/a> created by Marseille\u2019s son, Jeremiah Garcia, had garnered more than $200,000 by Saturday evening.<\/p>\n \u201cAnyone who\u2019s met Jameson would tell you he is the sweetest boy in the world,\u201d Garcia wrote.<\/p>\n
