Tropical Storm Bertha has degenerated into a trough, with its final impacts being felt across Texas.<\/p>\n

The storm has officially dissipated into a trough of low pressure, prompting the National Hurricane Center to issue its final advisory.<\/p>\n

While the system’s wind speeds have dropped to 35 mph, its remnants continue to bring 1 to 3 inches of rainfall and localized flash flood risks to South Texas tonight.<\/p>\n

Bertha is the second named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. The first, Tropical Storm Arthur, brought heavy rain and flash flooding to parts of southern Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi last month.<\/p>\n

Where is Bertha now, and what is its path?<\/p>\n

According to the hurricane center’s latest advisory<\/a>, as of 5 p.m. ET on Thursday:<\/p>\n

Bertha was located about 40 miles west-northwest of Houston, Tx.<\/p>\n

The storm has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, with higher gusts<\/p>\n

It is moving west at 14 mph<\/p>\n

The biggest threats from Bertha<\/p>\n

Overnight, the remnants of Bertha are expected to produce total rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches, with isolated totals of up to 4 inches over South Texas. This rainfall may produce isolated flash flooding, especially in urban areas.<\/p>\n

Water levels may remain elevated through the next high tide cycle along the Louisiana and Texas coastline but should subside thereafter.<\/p>\n

Though it’s weakening, Bertha is expected to produce 1 to 3 inches of rainfall, with up to 4 inches in isolated areas, which could lead to flash flooding.<\/p>\n

A potential storm surge is still possible, and water levels along the coast may remain elevated at least through the next high tide cycle, forecasters said.<\/p>\n

Swells generated by the remnants of Bertha will continue to affect the Louisiana and Texas coast through tonight.<\/p>\n

How is the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season shaping up?<\/p>\n

The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season<\/a> began on June 1 and lasts until Nov. 30. Forecasters with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are predicting eight to 14 total named storms, considered a below-normal season for the Atlantic basin. Out of those named storms, three to six are forecast to become hurricanes, including one to three major hurricanes (considered Category 3, 4 or 5).<\/p>\n
