Robbery suspect with gun shot by deputy in La Riviera neighborhood, Sacramento sheriff says<\/p>\n

A Sacramento County sheriff\u2019s deputy shot a man who was armed with a gun that he had stolen during one of two robberies on Friday, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened near Barracuda Way east of Watt Avenue in the La Riviera neighborhood after the man first robbed someone at knifepoint and later stole a gun from a homeowner and threatened his life, sheriff\u2019s spokesman Edward Igoe said.<\/p>\n

No deputies or crime victims were hurt, Igoe said. The suspect was taken to the hospital where he’s out of surgery and is in stable condition. <\/p>\n

Deputies were first called to the 9000 block of Folsom Boulevard around 9 a.m. after a construction worker at the end of his shift encountered a man who had broken into his vehicle and stolen his wallet and phone, Igoe said. <\/p>\n

When the man tried to get his items back, the man threatened him with a knife and fled before deputies arrived, Igoe said. <\/p>\n

Igoe said the suspect left behind identification and other material. <\/p>\n

Around 10:20 a.m., deputies received a report about a burglary in the 2600 block of Mackinaw Way. In that case, the caller said he came home to find a person who had broken in had stolen the homeowner\u2019s handgun, Igoe said. <\/p>\n

After the robber pointed the handgun at the homeowner and threatened his life, the homeowner fled and called 911. <\/p>\n

\u201cFrom a dangerous Richter scale this is going off the edge,\u201d Igoe said. <\/p>\n

Deputies located the suspect nearby on a bike he had stolen and chased him from Grayling Way to the end of a cul-de-sac on Barracuda Way. The suspected robber squeezed through a fence into a shopping center\u2019s parking lot, Igoe said. <\/p>\n

Deputies tried to get the suspect to drop the gun and one fired when he raised the firearm at them, Igoe said. <\/p>\n

Deputies then applied first aid to the man with a chest seal and tourniquet before he was taken to the hospital. <\/p>\n

Neighbors told KCRA 3’s Denzen Cortez they heard two shots being fired. Igoe said he did not have the number of shots that were fired confirmed. <\/p>\n

Ring surveillance footage shared with KCRA 3 showed a person on a bike appearing to be chased by at least two patrol cars with sirens blaring before the shooting. Another patrol car later arrived at the scene. <\/p>\n
