On Saturday, Trump shared an image<\/a> featuring himself and First Lady Melania Trump on one side and El-Sayed with his wife, Dr. Sarah Jukaku, a psychiatrist, on the other. The image included the caption \u201cTwo VERY DIFFERENT America\u2019s [sic].\u201d<\/p>\n Asked about the post on Sunday on CNN, El-Sayed<\/a> leaned into Trump drawing a contrast between his family and the president\u2019s.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, he\u2019s right,\u201d the former public health official said about Trump\u2019s idea of two \u201cvery different\u201d Americas.<\/p>\n \u201cOne in which your overlords are two people who don\u2019t like each other, but join in the interest of making billions of dollars<\/a> off of you \u2014or two people who genuinely love each other, enjoyed some pancakes together, want to come together to build the kind of America where they can raise a family and know that that family is going to have the good things,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cSo yes, you\u2019ve got two different visions of America,\u201d he added. \u201cDonald Trump\u2019s vision is the one you\u2019re living in right now. Can you afford your gas? Can you afford your groceries?\u201d<\/p>\n The Independent has contacted the White House for comment.<\/p>\n El-Sayed has faced repeated attacks from the president and his allies<\/a>, which have veered into profanity, false claims and outright Islamophobia.<\/p>\n The president\u2019s post on Saturday used El-Sayed\u2019s full name, Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, echoing a common rhetorical tactic the Republican has used in attacks against his Democratic predecessor Barack Obama, whom he makes a point to call Barack Hussein Obama, often writing his middle name in all caps on social media.<\/p>\n Trump rose to prominence in national politics in the 2010s in part by fueling the racist birther conspiracy theory that Obama was not born in the U.S. and by calling for a \u201ctotal and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States\u201d during his first campaign. The first and second Trump administrations later attempted to restrict travelers from numerous Muslim-majority countries.<\/p>\n After El-Sayed\u2019s narrow primary win this week<\/a>, the president has attacked the Michigan Democrat repeatedly along similar lines. <\/p>\n In a speech in Las Vegas, the president accused El-Sayed of being part of a wave of \u201ccommunists\u201d who would bring \u201csqualor\u201d and \u201cdeath\u201d to America.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I watch Abdul, he’s full of s***,\u201d Trump told a crowd<\/a> at the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa.<\/p>\n El-Sayed is not a communist, but rather a progressive who is campaigning on issues including Medicare for all and removing corporate money from politics.<\/p>\n Elsewhere in his remarks, Trump accused El-Sayed \u2014 who has been critical of the U.S. for supporting Israel\u2019s \u201cgenocide\u201d in Gaza <\/a>\u2014 of being hateful and antisemitic.<\/p>\n \u201cPut him in office, you\u2019re going to find out what he loves,\u201d Trump said. \u201cHe doesn’t love Israel. He doesn’t love Jewish people. He hates them. He hates them with a passion that burns in his heart.\u201d<\/p>\n In a victory speech on Wednesday after his primary win over Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens, El-Sayed thanked Jewish supporters of his campaign and affirmed his commitment to representing people of all faiths.<\/p>\n \u201cTo all of my sisters and brothers of the Jewish faith, or any faith at all, or no faith at all, I want you to know that my commitment to your safety, my commitment to Jewish safety, is the same commitment that I have to the safety of my own daughters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Outgoing Rep. Nancy Mace, in a separate CNN interview on Sunday, again painted El-Sayed as fueling a \u201ccommunist\u201d takeover and claimed Americans should be \u201cvery concerned\u201d about elected leaders who follow \u201cradical Islam ideology\u201d and criticize the country.<\/p>\n \u201cIn the future, when our granddaughters are wearing burkas to school, we\u2019re going to look back and say how did this happen?\u201d Mace said<\/a>, who claimed \u201cAmerica is not built on those values.\u201d<\/p>\n Freedom of religion, speech and political association are enshrined in the First Amendment of the Constitution<\/a>.
