On Tuesday, the main area of concern shifts slightly south into the Ohio Valley and Central Appalachians, where a Level 3 out of 5 severe storm risk threatens portions of the region today.<\/p>\n

This stormy pattern will remain over the region for much of the week, with\u00a0thunderstorms<\/a>\u00a0tapping into high humidity to produce heavy rain and a\u00a0flash flood threat<\/a>\u00a0as storms repeatedly track over the same areas.<\/p>\n TROPICAL HUMIDITY GRIPS THE EAST COAST AS MILLIONS ALONG THE I-95 CORRIDOR DEAL WITH INTENSE SUMMER HEAT<\/a><\/p>\n While an overnight Flash Flood Emergency for Perry County, Ohio, expired at 3 a.m., dangerous flooding remains on the ground this morning, with local reports of active water rescues.<\/p>\n According to the FOX Forecast Center, over 6.5 inches of rain<\/a> was reported within just a few hours.<\/p>\n All of this comes on the heels of Monday\u2019s destructive storms that brought 65 mph winds to Maryland<\/a> and Virginia<\/a>, knocking power out to more than 185k customers throughout both states at the peak of the storm.\u00a0<\/p>\n Meanwhile, ground stops were in effect at nearly every major Northeast airport in the evening.<\/p>\n A leftover boundary from overnight storms, extending from central Illinois into southern Ohio<\/a>, will serve as the primary focus for new storms on Tuesday.<\/p>\n NEW AREA TO WATCH FOR DEVELOPMENT DESIGNATED IN ATLANTIC AS TROPICAL WAVE WILL MOVE OFF AFRICA NEXT WEEK<\/a><\/p>\n Winds<\/a> aloft will remain just strong enough to support organized severe weather along this zone, allowing scattered afternoon storms to rapidly gather into a larger storm cluster yet again, the FOX Forecast Center said.<\/p>\n These storms will track east into moist unstable air over the Ohio Valley, allowing for intense lines to form, keeping damaging wind gusts as the primary threat.\u00a0<\/p>\n This has prompted a Level 3 out of 5 severe storm risk across the Midwest into the Ohio Valley, including Chicago<\/a>, Indianapolis<\/a> and Columbus<\/a>, Ohio.<\/p>\n MONSOON FUELS FLOOD AND DUST STORM THREAT ACROSS SOUTHWEST WHILE BRINGING NEEDED DROUGHT RELIEF<\/a><\/p>\n Although storm activity will gradually weaken overnight, the overall setup is expected to maintain a severe threat farther east into the Mid-Atlantic<\/a> for Wednesday, where a Level 1 out of 5 severe storm threat is present.<\/p>\n In addition to the severe wind threat, a prolonged heavy rain setup has already started driving a heightened flash flood<\/a> risk.<\/p>\n This training setup becomes increasingly dangerous on Tuesday as repeated rain saturates soils.<\/p>\n When you combine days of cumulative rainfall with the steep, runoff-prone terrain of West Virginia, the flash flood threat is going to ramp up significantly.<\/p>\n MONSTER 20-FOOT WAVES EYE HAWAII AS INVEST 93C CHURNS IN THE PACIFIC, THREATENS LATE-WEEK IMPACTS<\/a><\/p>\n A broad Level 2 out of 4 flash flood risk stretches across much of the region today. However, the Weather Prediction Center has upgraded a specific corridor to a Level 3 risk\u2014including far eastern Indiana, southern Ohio, western West Virginia<\/a>, and far northern Kentucky<\/a>\u2014where confidence is highest for the heaviest rainfall.<\/p>\n Most areas will see 2 to 3 inches of rain, but a heavier band of 3 to 5 inches will stretch from Indiana into West Virginia.
