{"id":65054,"date":"2026-08-13T20:03:30","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T20:03:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/65054\/"},"modified":"2026-08-13T20:03:30","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T20:03:30","slug":"democrats-demand-trump-reveal-stock-managers-explain-certain-trades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/65054\/","title":{"rendered":"Democrats demand Trump reveal stock managers, explain certain trades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>US President Donald Trump during an executive order signing in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, DC, US, on Monday, Aug. 10, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Bonnie Cash | Bloomberg | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Two top Democratic lawmakers are pushing President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a> for answers on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/07\/02\/donald-trump-interview-live-updates.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">mountain<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/06\/30\/trump-financial-disclosure-released.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stock<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/15\/trump-stock-trade-tech-oge.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">trades<\/a> made in his name since he returned to the White House.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.warren.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2026.8.12-Letter-to-Trump-re-Stock-Trades-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">17-page letter<\/a> sent Wednesday and seen by CNBC, Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Rep. Robert Garcia of California asked Trump to reveal the money managers he says are in charge of all his investment decisions.<\/p>\n<p>They also pressed him to disclose his involvement in or awareness of numerous individual stock trades that have raised concerns due to their potential overlap with government policy, or their proximity to market-moving statements made by Trump himself.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The appearance of numerous conflicts of interest from a President trading in individual stocks \u2013 including the potential for insider trading, market manipulation, and policy decisions that benefit the President&#8217;s stock portfolio rather than the public interest \u2013 undermines public trust in government,&#8221; Warren and Garcia wrote in the letter. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The American people deserve to know that the President is not using his office to increase the value of his stock portfolios, rather than working to bring down the cost of groceries,&#8221; they wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The letter is the latest sign that Democrats are gearing up to aggressively investigate Trump if they win control of one or both chambers of Congress in the November midterms. Garcia is ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. <\/p>\n<p>The Democrats wrote that they sought the responses from Trump in order to inform their work on potential legislation to ban presidents from owning individual stocks. U.S. presidents are currently allowed to trade securities, but legally required to report their transactions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The American people deserve to know if the president is working for them or for his own stock portfolio,&#8221; Warren said in a statement to CNBC. &#8220;It&#8217;s past time\u00a0we\u00a0ban Members of Congress, the Vice President, and the President from owning and\u00a0trading individual stocks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"headline0\"\/>Trump&#8217;s finances<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"InlineVideo-videoThumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/108329362-1782917636572-1782917291-46889774124-hd.jpg\" alt=\"President Trump on financial disclosures: I don't talk to people who manage my money\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Trump has defended the staggering number of trades made in his name \u2014 more than 21,000 in 2025 alone, according to an analysis of his 927-page annual financial disclosure \u2014 by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/07\/01\/trump-money-financial-disclosure-crypto-billions.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">insisting that he has no contact<\/a> with the institutions that run his money.<\/p>\n<p>CNBC previously linked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/JPM\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">JPMorgan Chase<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SCHW\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Charles Schwab<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/UBS\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UBS<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stephens.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Stephens Inc<\/a>. to at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/07\/29\/trump-banking-investments-jpmorgan-schwab-ubs-financial-disclosure.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">four of the eight investment accounts<\/a> listed in Trump&#8217;s 2025 disclosure. A full list has not been disclosed, and details about how outside firms handle Trump&#8217;s portfolio \u2014 and how and when they make decisions about what to buy and sell \u2014 remain unclear.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have funds that run my money,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/07\/01\/trump-money-financial-disclosure-crypto-billions.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trump said in July<\/a>. &#8220;They invest my money, and I don&#8217;t talk to them. I never \u2014 I don&#8217;t even speak to them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday&#8217;s letter from Warren and Garcia asked Trump to list &#8220;all third-party institutions and managers that direct your trades&#8221; and explain how they were selected, what mandate they were given and what investment processes they use, among other information.<\/p>\n<p>The White House has flatly denied that Trump&#8217;s financial disclosures, which by some estimates show he had more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/06\/30\/us\/politics\/trump-financial-disclosure-crypto-windfall.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">$2.2 billion<\/a> in revenue last year, raise any conflicts of interest.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has placed much of his wealth in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/12\/20\/trump-transfers-all-his-djt-shares-to-his-revocable-trust-sec-filings-show.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">revocable trust<\/a> bearing his own name, with his eldest son <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump-jr\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump Jr.<\/a> named as the sole trustee. That arrangement gives Trump more control than if he were to set up a blind trust, as other recent presidents have done.<\/p>\n<p>Eric Trump, another of the president&#8217;s sons who serves as executive vice president of the Trump Organization alongside Trump Jr., has pushed back on criticism of his father&#8217;s financial arrangement.<\/p>\n<p>After Trump&#8217;s disclosure covering the first three months of 2026, Eric Trump wrote on X that the president&#8217;s holdings &#8220;are maintained exclusively in fully discretionary accounts managed by independent third-party financial institutions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trump&#8217;s investments are allocated through &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/08\/10\/direct-indexing-is-the-hot-new-investing-strategy.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">automated, model-based portfolios and direct indexing strategies<\/a>&#8221; that neither he nor his family or its business are involved in, his son wrote. <\/p>\n<p>Days earlier, Eric Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EricTrump\/status\/2055344375039680889?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">wrote <\/a>that &#8220;all of our assets are invested in a blind trust&#8221; in response to a post on X by Warren slamming Trump for disclosing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NVDA\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nvidia<\/a> stock purchases after that company&#8217;s CEO, Jensen Huang, joined the president on a trip to China.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To suggest that individual stocks are being bought or sold, at the discretion of any member of the Trump family, would be a lie and blatantly false,&#8221; Eric Trump replied to Warren, who wrote that the president&#8217;s &#8220;corruption is a national security disaster.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/19\/us\/politics\/trump-stock-trades.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reported<\/a> there is no indication of the existence of a blind trust, which would require Trump to have no knowledge of what is in the portfolio. <\/p>\n<p>Warren and Garcia in their letter this week also questioned Eric Trump&#8217;s claim about a blind trust, writing to the president, &#8220;you yourself signed a financial disclosure certifying your awareness of thousands of individual stock transactions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to CNBC on Thursday morning, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly again denied any conflicts of interest and accused Warren and Garcia of echoing &#8220;the same, tired narrative that Democrats have pushed against President Trump, his family, and his administration for a decade.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Trump Organization in a statement later Thursday called the letter &#8220;just another baseless political stunt&#8221; by the Democrats, whom it accused of trying to mislead voters ahead of the midterms.<\/p>\n<p>The company also pointed to a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/in\/podcast\/charles-schwab-ceo-rick-wurster-talks-earnings-ai-prediction\/id1690236827?i=1000777773091\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bloomberg interview<\/a> with Charles Schwab CEO Rick Wurster, who said the investing strategies are being run on a &#8220;discretionary basis by professional money managers with no influence from the account holder.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The level of trading in them is very high because they&#8217;re constantly trying to pick up any loss in the security and replace it with another one,&#8221; Wurster said. &#8220;So I think some of the reporting that tries to link this to nefarious behavior I think is just misplaced.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"headline1\"\/>Digging into Trump&#8217;s trades<\/p>\n<p>Ranking member Rep. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).<\/p>\n<p>Anna Moneymaker | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers&#8217; letter focuses mainly on the more than 3,500 trades that Trump reported in the first three months of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The sheer volume of stock trading by a sitting president is unprecedented,&#8221; they wrote. &#8220;You\u2014or the entities responsible for your accounts\u2014made an average of approximately 50 trades every day markets were open during the first quarter of 2026.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>They highlighted 15 instances of what they said were examples of Trump buying stock in a company prior to an official government announcement favorable to that company.<\/p>\n<p>They include purchases of Nvidia and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AMD\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Advanced Micro Devices<\/a> on Jan. 6, one week before the Trump administration announced loosened export controls that would &#8220;make it easier to sell AMD and NVIDIA chips to China,&#8221; according to the lawmakers. <\/p>\n<p>Read more CNBC politics and policy coverage<\/p>\n<p>They also pointed to Trump&#8217;s Feb. 10 purchase of between $1 million and $5 million of stock in Taser maker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AXON\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Axon Enterprises<\/a>, two weeks before\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/06\/09\/trump-ice-congress-fisa-immigration-funding.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/a>\u00a0unveiled a $220 million Taser <a href=\"https:\/\/sam.gov\/workspace\/contract\/opp\/b40ef27c3e424cb788190e88ab12ca83\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">contract<\/a>. Experts told CNBC in June that the contract <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/06\/29\/trump-axon-stock-ice-taser-immigration-enforcement.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">appeared tailored to Axon&#8217;s products<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The letter further questions certain sales of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/MSFT\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/META\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Meta<\/a> stock.<\/p>\n<p>The Democrats also cited examples in the filings of Trump purchasing a company&#8217;s stock days before publicly praising the firm.
