{"id":70164,"date":"2026-08-25T14:05:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T14:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/70164\/"},"modified":"2026-08-25T14:05:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T14:05:15","slug":"atlantic-hurricane-season-waking-up-dolly-could-soon-form","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/70164\/","title":{"rendered":"Atlantic hurricane season waking up: Dolly could soon form"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Atlantic hurricane season is headed toward its typically busiest time of year, and one disturbance could become Tropical Storm Dolly later this week. <\/p>\n<p>Here are the areas we&#8217;re watching<\/p>\n<p>The graphic below shows the two areas that are being monitored by the National Hurricane Center. <\/p>\n<p>One is located in the central Atlantic east of Bermuda and the other is located in the eastern Atlantic. <\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"DCT 10\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"shadow-md rounded-lg object-contain h-auto w-full\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787666712_443_DCT_SPECIAL10_1280x720.jpg\"\/>Chances of development?<\/p>\n<p>Central Atlantic (Invest 95L): This low is located a few hundred miles east-northeast of Bermuda. The system still could become a short-lived depression or storm Tuesday as it continues to drift north away from Bermuda. However its window for development is expected to close by Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>Eastern Atlantic (Invest 96L): A <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/2026\/08\/16\/storms\/hurricane\/tropical-waves-important-during-hurricane-season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">tropical wave<\/a> is off the coast of Africa south of the Cabo Verde Islands and could develop into a tropical depression, then possibly Tropical Storm Dolly within the next few days. <\/p>\n<p>(MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/2026\/07\/28\/safety\/hurricane\/hurricane-terms-and-definitions-glossary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">What tropical terms actually mean<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Get More of Our News on Google<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-base leading-loose tracking-tight font-medium text-gray-500 mt-2 mb-4\">Set The Weather Company as a &#8216;Preferred Source&#8217; to get quicker access to the news you value.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/preferences\/source?q=weather.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" aria-label=\"Add as a preferred source on Google\" class=\"inline-block w-full max-w-[220px] rounded-lg focus-visible:ring-2 focus-visible:ring-blue-500 focus-visible:outline-none\" data-testid=\"preferred-source-button\"><img alt=\"\" data-testid=\"preferred-source-badge\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"338\" height=\"107\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"object-contain h-auto w-full\" style=\"color:transparent\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/google-preferred-source-badge-en.083veuzl7n_jk.png\"\/><\/a>Are either of these a threat?<\/p>\n<p>The central Atlantic low may enhance rain and gusty winds in parts of Newfoundland later Tuesday into early Wednesday, but then will merge with a cold front and is, therefore, no significant threat. <\/p>\n<p>The eastern Atlantic system is still about 2,500 miles away from the Lesser Antilles. <\/p>\n<p>There appear to be two options with this:<\/p>\n<p>It could struggle with the same <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/2026\/08\/13\/storms\/hurricane\/super-el-nino-august-update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">El Ni\u00f1o<\/a>-enhanced wind shear and dry air other systems have fought against in recent weeks as it continues moving toward the west-northwest, arriving near the Lesser Antilles by Sunday with some increase in showers. <\/p>\n<p>(MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/2026\/07\/27\/science\/weather-explainers\/video\/what-is-wind-shear-hurricane-explainer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">What is wind shear<\/a>?)<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"DCT 25\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"shadow-md rounded-lg object-contain h-auto w-full\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787666715_31_DCT_SPECIAL25_1280x720.jpg\"\/>If it fights off this shear and dry air and develops, it&#8217;s expected to then make a northward turn next week in the Atlantic, where it could escape El Ni\u00f1o&#8217;s influence. Some computer guidance says this could be a tropical storm or hurricane as it gets to the subtropical Atlantic a week to ten days from now. <img alt=\"DCT 23\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"shadow-md rounded-lg object-contain h-auto w-full\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787666715_300_DCT_SPECIAL23_1280x720.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>While it&#8217;s too soon to be certain about what happens with this system next week, it is not an immediate concern for the mainland U.S. <\/p>\n<p>Those in the Lesser Antilles should monitor the progress of this system, as with any system during hurricane season. <\/p>\n<p>Tropics on the rise<\/p>\n<p>We are in the ramp-up of the Atlantic hurricane season. <\/p>\n<p>The escalation begins in August and continues until peak hurricane season in the second week of September. <\/p>\n<p>El Ni\u00f1o is also ramping up, but that doesn&#8217;t guarantee that no storms will form.
