According to Labor Department data, the price of ground beef has risen by roughly 24 percent to $6.89 per pound since President Trump returned to office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\" blockindex=\"26\" articletitle=\"Farmers Association Demands Congress Investigate Trump Beef Deal \u2018Betrayal\u2019\">And both the USDA and the White House have acknowledged that this trend is set to continue amid growing demand in the U.S. and the U.S. cattle herd hitting a 75-year low.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\" blockindex=\"27\" articletitle=\"Farmers Association Demands Congress Investigate Trump Beef Deal \u2018Betrayal\u2019\">The White House spokeswoman told Newsweek that Trump was &#8220;delivering on his promise to consumers by reducing beef prices while allowing our domestic beef herd to grow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\" blockindex=\"28\" articletitle=\"Farmers Association Demands Congress Investigate Trump Beef Deal \u2018Betrayal\u2019\">&#8220;The President will continue taking actions to support our great farmers while driving economic prosperity for all Americans,&#8221; and a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/meat-delivery-firm-founder-trump-beef-plan-short-term-band-aid-12369602\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">short-term band-aid&#8221; for consumers<\/a>, but told Newsweek this would fail to remedy the underlying issues that have pushed beef prices to record highs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\" blockindex=\"31\" articletitle=\"Farmers Association Demands Congress Investigate Trump Beef Deal \u2018Betrayal\u2019\">&#8220;I do not expect the plan to reduce retail beef prices meaningfully across the United States,&#8221; said Sylvain Charlebois, a professor of food distribution and policy at Dalhousie University.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\" blockindex=\"33\" articletitle=\"Farmers Association Demands Congress Investigate Trump Beef Deal \u2018Betrayal\u2019\">&#8220;It may provide some temporary relief, especially for ground beef if the imports include lean trimmings, but 300,000 tonnes is unlikely to overcome tight cattle supplies, processing costs and strong demand,&#8221;
