{"id":7381,"date":"2026-03-20T03:46:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-20T03:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/7381\/"},"modified":"2026-03-20T03:46:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T03:46:07","slug":"socal-heat-wave-is-breaking-so-many-records-as-march-becomes-the-new-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/news\/7381\/","title":{"rendered":"SoCal heat wave is &#8216;breaking so many records&#8217; as March becomes the new summer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It was another day of record-breaking temperatures as a heat wave that is not expected to break until the weekend continued to grip Los Angeles and the Southwest.<\/p>\n<p>Burbank, Woodland Hills and Paso Robles set heat records for the day on Thursday as temperatures hit the high 90s, conditions uncommon for March.<\/p>\n<p>North Shore, a tiny community by the Salton Sea, hit 108 degrees Wednesday, tying the all-time national temperature record for March. On Thursday, a small Arizona desert town hit 110 degrees, reaching a new March high temperature, <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/heat-wave-weather-desert-southwest-8de9241eb9e45043cf061babe2fdf927\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to the Associated Press.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re breaking so many records, it\u2019s definitely pretty clear that it\u2019s one of the warmest Marches we\u2019ve ever had,\u201d National Weather Service meteorologist Bryan Lewis told The Times on Wednesday. \u201cIt\u2019s more similar to the heat waves we see in the summer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An extreme heat warning remains in place for most inland areas \u2014 and a heat advisory for coastal regions \u2014 through Friday, with officials urging people to be on guard for signs of heat-related illness.<\/p>\n<p>Staying cool in the heat may have been a challenge for hundreds of Southern California Edison customers on Wednesday, after they lost power at 6 a.m. and <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2026-03-18\/socal-edison-outage-heat-wave-courthouse\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">didn\u2019t have it restored the entire day.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDangerously hot temperatures will continue all week,\u201d the National Weather Service\u2019s Oxnard office wrote in its Thursday morning forecast. <\/p>\n<p>Moderate relief is in sight this weekend, however, when forecasters predict the powerful high-pressure system will start to flatten out, bringing a gradual drop in temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>The weather is expected to cool 5 to 10 degrees by Saturday and even more by Sunday, before warming up again on Monday and Tuesday, according to the weather service. It\u2019s expected to be in the 80s and 90s near downtown Los Angeles and in the mid-90s in the valleys next week.<\/p>\n<p>After a wet winter spawned new grass, it could all be drying out faster than usual due to the heat wave, said National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Wofford.
