He was 54.<\/p>\n<p>His family shared news of his passing in a statement posted on the actor\u2019s social media accounts. While it\u2019s \u201cno secret Nicholas had struggles in the past,\u201d they said, he was on medication to manage his diagnosis and \u201coptimistic about the future\u201d at the time of his death. <\/p>\n<p>His siblings and parents asked for privacy as they grieve the loss of \u201ca man who lived with intensity, imagination, and heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was passionate, sensitive, and endlessly driven to create,\u201d the family stated. \u201cThose who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brendon was born in Los Angeles in 1971 and began his acting career in the mid-\u201990s. He got his big break in 1997 when he was cast as  Harris in \u201cBuffy.\u201d Over the show\u2019s seven-season run, Brendon became a central figure, portraying the witty, insecure but dependable \u201ceveryman\u201d in the gang\u2019s battles against the forces of darkness.<\/p>\n<p>He starred in his first feature film, \u201cPsycho Beach Party,\u201d in 2000, playing the love interest Starcat in the indie flick that\u2019s now regarded as a cult classic. <\/p>\n<p>After \u201cBuffy\u201d ended in 2003, Brendon continued working in television, making appearances on series such as \u201cWithout a Trace,\u201d \u201cPrivate Practice,\u201d and \u201cKitchen Confidential.\u201d He also played a recurring role as FBI technical analyst Kevin Lynch on \u201cCriminal Minds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/tv\/story\/2022-08-18\/nicholas-brendon-hospitalized-cardiac-incident-tachycardia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">his family shared<\/a> that he had been rushed to the hospital because of tachycardia, a condition that makes the heart beat abnormally fast, and had been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect that is common in twins. Brendon has an identical twin brother named Kelly Donovan, who appeared as his stand-in and double in episodes of \u201cBuffy.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The \u201cCriminal Minds\u201d star also underwent multiple spinal surgeries to manage cauda equina syndrome, a rare condition in which nerve bundles in the lumbar or sacral spine are compressed or not functioning properly.
