SimWallet from Odido expands to 140 countries

Instant internet access abroad within three minutes, no subscription required

SimWallet, Odido’s eSIM app, is expanding and going international. The app is now available for use in the Netherlands and in more than 140 countries. With SimWallet, users can access mobile internet within three minutes in the Netherlands and abroad, without the need to take out a subscription, regardless of whether they are Odido customers or not. With the expansion of the SimWallet, Odido not only offers greater freedom of choice and flexibility for users in the Netherlands and beyond, but also strengthens SimWallet’s position in the rapidly growing eSIM market.

Following a successful launch in the Netherlands
In April this year, Odido introduced SimWallet to the Dutch market, enabling anyone, even those who are not Odido customers, to connect to the Odido network. The new expansion of SimWallet now also makes it possible to get online in 140 other countries through a single app. This is ideal, for example, when users are on holiday or on a business trip, or when temporary internet access is needed for a tablet, smartwatch, or another eSIM-enabled device. In the Netherlands, SimWallet uses the Odido network; abroad, SimWallet works with multiple roaming partners.

“With SimWallet, we’ve seen in the Netherlands that people don’t always want a subscription, but they do want immediate access to the internet, sometimes for a day, sometimes for longer. This shows once again that things can be done differently in the traditional telecom sector,” says Tisha van Lammeren, Chief Commercial Officer Mass Market at Odido. “We started in the Netherlands on purpose to assess this need, and it proved strong. That demand does not end at the border. That’s why we now offer international bundles with SimWallet for everyone, including non-Odido customers, who want to decide for themselves when and how to use the internet abroad.”

By expanding SimWallet beyond the Dutch border, the app meets the growing demand for staying connected outside the Netherlands. The market for (travel) eSIMs is expected to nearly quintuple by 2030. With SimWallet, Odido takes a new step towards its ambition of showing that things can be done differently, while strengthening the telecom provider’s position in both the national and international eSIM markets.

This is how SimWallet works
The SimWallet app gives everyone easy access to the internet. Users can choose a data bundle for a day, a week, or a month. Thanks to eSIM technology, no physical or digital SIM card is required, and could be installed on any device that supports this technology. On a phone, the eSIM can be installed directly from the app. Activating a SimWallet eSIM on another device is done via a QR code. By scanning this code, the eSIM is activated, giving that device access to Odido’s mobile network or to the mobile networks of roaming partners.

The SimWallet app is available in all major app stores and can be downloaded for free. Users pay per bundle (depending on the duration, amount of data, and country) and are not tied to a subscription or any other obligations.
