Dat het maar een mooi en zwaar jaar mag worden. Dat laatste muzikaal, want we wensen jullie uiteraard niets dan goeds! Of 2025 een goed jaar was, zal vooral persoonlijk zijn. Dat er in ons geliefde genre weer een berg releases de duisternis zagen, is echter een feit. Misschien dat de grote namen het wat rustiger aan deden, maar dat gaf dan ruimte die andere, meer opkomende bands gretig innamen. Soms zelfs in de vorm van hogere posities op de festivalposters. Dat is mooi, want alleen zo blijft metal relevant en alleen zo kan harde gitaarmuziek nieuwe generaties blijven boeien.<\/p>\n<p>Dat het genre niet op zijn lauweren kan blijven rusten, werd misschien nog wel het meest duidelijk door het in al zijn tragiek o zo fraaie afscheidsconcert van Ozzy en Black Sabbath. Nog geen drie weken na de show in Birmingham overleed onze \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/zwaremetalen.com\/nieuws\/ozzy-osbourne-76-overleden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Prince Of Darkness<\/a>\u201c. Hij wordt gemist. Net als Tomas \u201cTompa\u201d Lindberg (onder andere At The Gates, Lock Up) Brent Hinds (Mastodon), The Spaceman <a href=\"https:\/\/zwaremetalen.com\/nieuws\/originele-kiss-gitarist-ace-frehley-overleden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Ace Frehley<\/a> (ex-KISS,\u00a0Frehley\u2019s Comet), Sam Rivers (Limp Bizkit) en de andere metalbroeders en zusters die in 2025 het leven lieten. Rust in vrede.<\/p>\n<p>Dat metal inderdaad \u2013 en misschien wel meer dan voorgaande jaren \u2013 aanspreekt, blijkt uit de hoge posities die bands als\u00a0Ghost\u00a0en\u00a0Sleep Token\u00a0haalden in de Amerikaanse albumlijsten (beide nummer 1 in de Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart als we ons niet vergissen). Maar of we nu al te veel naar de Verenigde Staten moeten kijken? Er was hier namelijk ook genoeg te beleven. Neerlands trots\u00a0The Gathering speelde voor een zeer internationaal publiek <a href=\"https:\/\/zwaremetalen.com\/liveverslagen\/concertverslagen\/the-gathering-in-doornroosje-magisch-magistraal-mandylion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">maar liefst vijf uitverkochte shows<\/a> op rij in Doornroosje,\u00a0 groovemetaliconen Pantera <a href=\"https:\/\/zwaremetalen.com\/liveverslagen\/concertverslagen\/alles-voor-de-broers-pantera-in-afas-live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">deden het nog eens voor de broers<\/a> en Opeth executeerde zijn testament in Amsterdam. De top 3 van 2025 meest gelezen concertverslagen bestaat echter uit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/zwaremetalen.com\/liveverslagen\/concertverslagen\/iron-maiden-in-gelredome-adembenemend-subliem-fenomenaal-en-waanzinnig-fraai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Iron Maiden\u00a0in Gelredome,<\/a> Spiritbox in 013 (de \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/zwaremetalen.com\/liveverslagen\/concertverslagen\/spiritbox-slaat-een-modderfiguur-in-een-uitverkocht-013\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">modderfiguurrecensie<\/a>\u201c) en\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/zwaremetalen.com\/liveverslagen\/concertverslagen\/slayer-laat-in-londen-nog-een-keer-zien-wie-de-baas-is\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Slayer<\/a>\u00a0dat in Londen nog even liet zien hoe het moet.<\/p>\n<p>Verder hebben we dit jaar ook menig babbel geslagen met de mensen die het doen: de artiesten zelf. <a href=\"https:\/\/zwaremetalen.com\/interviews\/duivelse-diversiteit-een-gesprek-met-dani-filth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vooral het interview met Dani Filth werd goed gelezen<\/a>. Het is natuurlijk altijd mooi om te lezen wat de mensen beweegt die ons de muziek geven waar we zo goed op gaan. Maar onze (voltallige) redactie is natuurlijk vooral bezig om te vertellen wat er te horen is op nieuwe zware releases. Waar ligt de kwaliteit, waar ligt de verrassing en waar ligt misschien zelfs de teleurstelling? Met meer dan honderd promo\u2019s die we elke week ontvangen, laten we die laatste categorie overigens nog wel eens liggen, om het juist te hebben over platen die de moeite waard zijn. De top 3 van 2025 van meest gelezen recensies wordt ingevuld door\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/zwaremetalen.com\/english\/twice-as-heavy-cradle-of-filth-the-screaming-of-the-valkyries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Cradle Of Filth<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/zwaremetalen.com\/albumrecensies\/dream-theater-parasomnia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Dream Theater <\/a>en <a href=\"https:\/\/zwaremetalen.com\/albumrecensies\/volbeat-god-of-angels-trust\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Volbeat<\/a>. Op de voet gevolgd door <a href=\"https:\/\/zwaremetalen.com\/albumrecensies\/helmut-lotti-heart-rock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Helmut Lotti<\/a> trouwens! Niet zelden werden de recensies ook in het <a href=\"https:\/\/zwaremetalen.com\/category\/english\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Engels<\/a> vertaald aangeboden, want waarom al dat moois voor ons zelf houden? Die van de heer Lotti hebben we overigens wel gewoon tot het Nederlandse taalgebied beperkt.<\/p>\n<p>En dat allemaal in het jaar dat Zware Metalen de respectabele leeftijd van een kwart eeuw bereikte! Vrees niet, dat is voor ons geen reden om ook maar iets rustiger aan te gaan doen. Sterker nog: we zijn druk bezig nieuwe idee\u00ebn uit te werken om met het genre mee te gaan in de tijd. Oh, en we gaan een webshop lanceren. Daarover \u00e9n over die nieuwe idee\u00ebn later in 2026 meer. En met die cliffhanger gaan we naar de lijstjes van de redactieleden.<\/p>\n<p>Hieronder is de berg aan releases van 2025 per redactielid getrechterd tot een lijst van maximaal 20 releases, oftewel de jaarlijsten!
