Det er per nå uklart om tilbakekallingen gjelder alle land. Selskapet opplyser at kunder som er omfattet av tilbakekallingen, blir kontaktet og får råd om hva de skal gjøre.
Volvo må bytte ut batteriene på de aktuelle bilene. Tilbakekallingen kan koste selskapet millioner av dollar å rette opp, skriver Reuters.
Byttet av batteri skjer gratis, lover Volvo. De ber eiere i mellomtiden fortsette å begrense lading til 70 prosent av kapasiteten for å være på den sikre siden.
Bilmodellen er sentral i Volvos forsøk på å konkurrere med billigere kinesiske bilmerker. Samtidig er batterisikkerhet et sensitivt tema for forbrukere og produsenter.
Volvo EX30 var i desember i fjor på topp 10-lista over de mest kjøpte elbilene i Norge.
