Vito Quiles assures that he will not surrender “to Pedro Sánchez’s government” after the arrest order issued this Thursday by a Madrid court. He announced this in a video disseminated on social networks, where he accused the Spanish government of carrying out a “judicial and media hunt” against him since, months ago, he accosted the wife of the Spanish president, Begoña Gómez. Initially, Quiles planned to go to a police station this Friday to clarify the matter, according to sources from the firm representing him, Ospina Abogados.
The arrest order was issued by the magistrate of investigating court number 32 of Madrid within the framework of a proceeding opened in this body following a published report about María Jesús Montero.
In the video, however, Quiles emphasizes that both he and his lawyer are unaware of the reasons for which they want to arrest him. “The only thing I know is that they have already gone to my workplace, they have gone to my home, and they are trying to find me all over Madrid to take me to jail,” he stressed.
In the video, Quiles reviews the corruption cases that now splash the PSOE, such as that of Begoña Gómez herself, Zapatero’s jewels, and the Leire Díez case, and denounces that they are all “at home”. “Is it normal that in a consolidated democracy the police go to the homes and workplaces of journalists to take them away simply because they are uncomfortable for the government and because they bother Pedro Sánchez?”, he says.
Finally, the ultra agitator emphasizes that he will not surrender to justice or, as he says, “to Pedro Sánchez’s government”. “If you have the same luck as with Puigdemont, we can be like this for days”, he concludes.
Open criminal cases
Vito Quiles has, at least, one criminal case open for having shown up at the home of the president of the company Red Eléctrica, Beatriz Corredor, and for stating in a video that he did not assume his responsibilities after the blackout of April 2025. However, it is not clear under what procedure his detention has been ordered. Other cases also came into public focus, such as the alleged assault on political analyst Sarah Santaolalla. However, in both cases the proceedings have been provisionally dismissed.
Quiles considers the judge’s order the result of a “massive complaint campaign from Sánchez’s circle”, and has stated that the Spanish government “uses justice to pursue its rivals without reason”.
