A brief phone call pushed urgent talks on Patriot missile deliveries and frontline reports, hinting at immediate steps to bolster air defence and civilian protection.
President Volodymyr Zelensky held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, during which they discussed support for Ukraine, including the supply of missiles for Patriot systems.
The head of state announced the conversation on Telegram.
Spoke with German Chancellor Merz. Thank you for your support and help to our people, to our country. Germany is one of the global leaders in protecting life, and we greatly value this. The key now is missiles for Patriots, to protect our people from Russian ballistic missiles. We talked primarily about this – about the possibility of supporting our Patriot systems with the missiles they need, since Russia is betting on missile strikes against Ukraine: more opportunities to drag out the war, Russia does not have.
– President of Ukraine
Zelensky also informed his interlocutor about the frontline situation and the progress of the fighting, including the available results.
Patriot Support and Frontline Situation
The discussion focused on the possibility of supplying Patriot systems with the missiles needed to bolster defense and protect the population.
According to the press service of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, information circulated in the media about the alleged capture of Kostyantynivka by Russian forces does not reflect reality.
The president expressed gratitude to Ukrainian servicemen and partners for their support and joint efforts in defense and humanitarian directions.
Convinced of further cooperation and support from partners, the president emphasized the importance of joint efforts to protect the population and Ukraine’s sovereignty.
