WASHINGTON (TNND) — Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman said he wouldn’t campaign against Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Dave McCormick because he couldn’t campaign against his friend.
During an interview with the Washington Examiner, Fetterman was asked if he would support McCormick if he decided to run for Senate again in four years.
“Well, I would absolutely never move against my friend,” Fetterman said.
He called McCormick a “great guy.”
The two Pennsylvania senators have done many media hits together and co-sponsored bipartisan legislation together, according to The Hill newspaper.
McCormick recently praised Fetterman during an interview over the weekend.
“He’s willing to stand up and call out the craziness that’s happening in his party,” McCormick said. “It’s made him unpopular with some of the people in his party.”
There have been some reports of Fetterman potentially flipping parties and becoming a Republican, but he has denied all of those reports.
“I have had conversations with him in the past, as have many of my colleagues about the challenges he faces in his caucus,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune told reporters at the Capitol last month. “And, you know, there are many of us who I think would welcome the opportunity to have him join the Republican conference, but, you know, ultimately that’s a decision that’s up to him.”
