In the statement, the American diplomat also lauded the strong ties between India and the United States, along with the personal relationship between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“On behalf of the United States of America, I extend warm congratulations to the people of India on their Independence Day,” Rubio said in the statement. “Thanks to the personal relationship between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi, the US-India relationship continues to grow and is stronger than ever. From defence and energy security to critical minerals, artificial intelligence, space cooperation, and commerce, our collaboration is making both of our nations, and the broader Indian Ocean region, safer, stronger, and more prosperous.”

He went on to state that both countries would continue to share a strong relationship. “The deep ties of friendship and family between our two peoples form the foundation of a partnership that is innovative, resilient, and forward-looking. The United States looks forward to the future our two countries will build together,” Rubio averred.

Several states extend wishes

Apart from Rubio, several US states have also celebrated August 15, 2026, as ‘India Day’ to mark India’s independence. In almost every statement, the American states lauded the contribution made by the growing and flourishing Indian community.

Several senators, Congress members, lawmakers and city councils have also extended greetings on India’s Independence Day, rounding off a message from the US that focused on strong bilateral ties and growing people-to-people links.

Earlier today, PM Modi took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to extend greetings to the nation on Independence Day. In his post, the prime minister said that the dreams of the freedom fighters continue to inspire the country as it works towards building a Viksit Bharat.

“Warm greetings on the occasion of Independence Day. We remember with gratitude the countless freedom fighters whose courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment ensured the end of colonial rule. Their dreams continue to inspire us as we work together to build a Viksit Bharat. Powered by 140 crore Indians, our nation is scaling new heights of progress across different sectors. May this journey keep progressing at an even greater pace in the times to come,” he wrote on X.
