The least that can be said is that this final Formula E race in the Gen3 era will be remembered. A real battle between António Félix da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein saw the German driver emerge victorious.

For the second time in his career, Pascal Wehrlein has emerged from a Formula E season with the championship crown. However, the Porsche driver , who started from a strong position, finished outside the points after a fierce battle with Portugal’s António Félix da Costa. Da Costa, giving it his all to try and secure the teams’ title for Jaguar and the drivers’ title for Mitch Evans, achieved the first half of his goal.

“First of all, a huge thank you to my entire team. What we achieved this weekend was once again exceptional,” commented Pascal Wehrlein, fresh from his title win. “ We were there when it mattered. We don’t crack under pressure: we thrive on it, we embrace it, and we become even better under pressure. So it’s fantastic. Regarding today’s race, the way Antonio drove was one of the most unsportsmanlike and unfair things I’ve ever seen. Nevertheless, we succeeded, and there are many messages… I won’t forget anything. So yes, let’s enjoy a good off-season, and next year we’ll forget what happened here.”

Bitter towards his rival, the now two-time world champion seemed genuinely surprised by the turn of events, despite a palpable sense of joy beneath the frustration. “I think Antonio spent 20 laps trying to ruin my race, driving alongside me, slowing down, pushing me against the walls, braking in front of me, and just trying to spoil my race and my championship,” added the Porsche driver. ” Jake Dennis was even able to overtake me because of it. And yes, once we caught up with the group, I think it was Mitch in front of him, he went for the outside. I knew it was a move I had to try, to go around the inside. We were side by side, then we bumped wheel to wheel and went straight on. So yes, that’s how it went.”

Already very ambitious, and above all very calm in the face of this epic finale, Pascal Wehrlein didn’t fail to mention the highly anticipated future of his category. With expectations high, he’s determined not to miss the opportunity. “Tonight we’re going to celebrate and enjoy the moment, just like in the coming days. I’m very happy to be able to see my family again, who unfortunately couldn’t be here this weekend. My father is here, my sister is here, other family members are here too, so I’m really looking forward to spending time with them, then to ‘reset,’ to welcome the new Gen4 car, and to make things even harder for them next year.”
